Mean customer rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Peachiiiiiiiiiii
UGH

tonight on a closing shift I had a man yell at me that one of his Frappuccinos was supposed to have a pump of vanilla in it. KNOWING it was a mobile order I was like “yes sir! Everything that’s on the sticker should be there! Does it taste off?” And he just started screaming at me and it became obvious that the issue was that he didn’t ORDER it that way. At which point I was like “yes we make the orders how they’re displayed on the stickers…” and I was GONNA tell him that it was no biggie and I’d remake it but he INTERRUPTED ME to scream “AND IM TELLING YOU THAT ITS WRONG” and I very calmly said “please don’t talk to me like that” and I heard him yelling “OH MY GAWD” as I closed the window. My shift went over to assess him while I took a breather in the back, and ofc he reported to my shift that I instigated and I’m the one that freaked out on him. Luckily she heard everything and verified that I wasn’t crazy and I absolutely did stay calm the whole time, but it’s still so frustrating. Like why me, bro? You couldn’t just take the L when you realized you forgot one (1) singular pump of vanilla? Okay 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Am I wrong for the words “please don’t talk to me like that” ?? Because I’ll help customers all day every day but I will NOT be disrespected. I will not tolerate being screamed at. I’ll discuss issues like an adult in a calm way, but I won’t be screamed at.

You are perfectly fine to ask a customer to speak to you in a respectful tone. He definitely just wanted a response out of you to try and report you to your manager.

In the future always try and steer belligerent people with

"y'know, it seems to be that I won't be able to serve you today. Lemme find someone who can better assess the particulars of your needs; end with (this part is crucial) may you have the day you deserve."

-Or if you wanna double down-

Close the window and clearly state that you will not be helping them if they refuse to treat you with integrity and paitience like a human being.

Lol my SM told someone he needs to talk to them with respect and when he refused to my SM refused to make his drink and told him to get a refund. So you’re totally justified IMO to tell someone not to talk to you like that. As long as you say it in a “nice” way you didn’t do anything wrong.

You did fine!

You have every right to tell someone to treat you with dignity and respect. Some customers truly don’t see us as human beings and it’s frankly disturbing.
