Why do people like to stand in front of my bar and watch me make drinks? What do they expect to accomplish? Am I that fascinating? Does the drink making process entertain you? Do you think I'll go faster? Do you think you'll be getting your drunk before the 15 people in front of you? Are you trying to make me nervous or are you watching for any mistakes?
Just, why?
Does anyone else not like being stared at or do you enjoy the attention?

It drives me crazy when people crowd around the bar, especially when other people are also waiting. It causes so much confusion because the people crowding the bar end up stealing other people’s drinks or asking ”is this mine?” to EVERYTHING I pass out, EVEN IF ITS NOT WHAT THEY ORDERED!! (I literally one time handed out a drink while someone was crowding the bar, she took it even though it wasn’t hers and she told me that she thought I just made it for her to be nice 🙄. NO BITCH SOMEONE ELSE FUCKING ORDERED IT) And now since you’re blocking other customers’ view of the bar I have to crane *around* you and yell *past* you so that the right person gets the drink they ordered!! Just sit down, be patient, and I’ll have your drink out to you shortly with no confusion

Had a woman grab a drink, stick her straw in it, take a huge swig then ask "is this mine" Me: was like idk who are you, C: I'm x Me: Is that what it says on the sticker? C: it says y Me: then no sweetheart that wasn't yours
I should of told her ass to go pay for the drink she just stole
Do starbucks customer lack common sense or suffer from enlarged entitlement?

"she told me that she thought I just made it for her to be nice"

This is the most pretentious and stupid comment I've ever seen on this sub

I literally had a person watch me solo bar. I finally asked them if they were waiting for a drink and they said they hadn't ordered yet. Like why would you go straight to the barista for that? Go to the register like everyone else.
Alefur56 points2y ago
I've had quite a few people walk up to the bar itself, look me in the eye and start ordering, and it's such a surreal experience every time
Royal_Concentrate_00 [OP]32 points2y ago
I had a woman come in look at me, mid pour, and say "I want a trenta dragonfruit with extra dragonfruit" Hahahaha
Superduperfreddy3 points2y ago
I’d deadass look at them for 3 seconds and be like ok
Superduperfreddy3 points2y ago
What do you want me to do about that
Myra-Maines1 points2y ago
I proceed to ignore them. Then I look up and act stupid and say oh you were talking to me? I’m drive bar and then go back to doing my drinks
kortette15 points2y ago
That happens strangely often. A lot of people think they can just go up to anyone and order?? As if they’ve never been into a cafe before.
[deleted]37 points2y ago
“I wAnTeD oAt mILk iN tHaT” when it’s not even their drink😐
mrhammerant33 points2y ago
"No I said NO ICE"
"Ma'am, this isn't yours."
"Why isn't it pink?"
"We are out of the dragonfruit pieces."
"I didn't order dragonfruit!"
"Ma'am this is for somebody named Travis."

“CaN I gEt SoMe WhIp CrEaM???” As I have the whip canister in my hand with the dome lid on top of the cup for someone else’s drink
Decent_Macaron344426 points2y ago
one of my coworkers said that he just stops what he's doing and stares at them back until they get so uncomfortable that they go to a different part of the store😭😭

Ok_Cut595923 points2y ago
Ugh I had a five person family crowd the bar. It was uncomfortable. I feel you.
lilkiosk19 points2y ago
I hate when I’m on drive bar and a customer walks in and stands directly in front of me and stares at me expecting me to take their order as I am making tons of drinks. Like I’m not at the register and very obviously busy, do you really think I’m going to take your order??

I remember this lady watching me. She wanted me to remake her drink because *she saw me touch the steaming wand* Bro I have to clean it after every use. My manager even stood there watching me because he was confused why this lady was so angry about it. and he had to tell her I made it properly and that I had to clean it after every use. But no to her that was unsanitary.
sydbey_11 points2y ago
never liked this one bit.

My bittersweet moment of crowded hand off was when a man skipped passed everyone, sat his daughter on the counter, I sat down 2 frappe and he immediately started asking me where his order was. I try to get his name and meanwhile, ths daughter proceeded to dip her fingers in the whip cream of the frapps that weren't theirs. I see this happeneing, the crowd sees this happening, somehow he does not. Me: "Are you John?" Him: "No" Me: "Well I'll have to remake this order for John, as your daughter is eating the whip cream off of it. I'll call your name when your order is ready" He promptly snatched her off the counter in embarasament. How about you don't set your child on the counter at a business like that? And maybe don't cut 40 fucking people when you just ordered?
tacticalcop9 points2y ago
and when they reach over the bar to point at something they want!! like who taught you manners!!
tinydesthique6 points2y ago
being starred at makes me super anxious and when people stare, i tend to feel extremely pressured and tear up while working but i can hide it pretty well
witchyblackbunny3 points2y ago
This part, I have ptsd from being in the military prior to being a barista, and everytime someone starts crowding my bar I begin to feel so sick and anxious. Then I start messing up drink order and freaking out to the point I tear up.
Koffee-Brown5 points2y ago
HATE THAT! It’s so while you’re working on someone else’s drink they can yell at you “I said NO WHIP!!” I get so much joy out of being able to hit them with the “What? This isn’t yours.”🤫
ShmokeanduhPancake5 points2y ago
I watch-from a good distance-but it’s because I think it’s mesmerizing and also the flow of everyone working is like a dance to me. I’m sorry :(
feisty3146 points2y ago
There's definitely a difference between casually observing from a reasonable difference and staring us down, arms crossed, right up against the bar. As long as you are aware of people who have ordered before you and watch your body language (and the barista's body language) you're probably fine.
ShmokeanduhPancake1 points2y ago
Okay good. I really am not trying to make anyone uncomfortable!
Kind_Fox_9512 points2y ago
Oh trust me, we don’t mind you watching. It’s the people who peer over us studying our every move to make sure their drink is made correctly.
It takes us out of our focus and makes us second-guess ourselves even more.
ShmokeanduhPancake1 points2y ago
That would make me feel really unsettled as well. I’m sorry people do that to you all-it feels…abusive? Creepy?
