I wanna do my nails but I’m not sure if I can have them. What should I do? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by zambiers
I’ve been with Starbies since the beginning of the year and I want to ✨spice✨ up my nails. (Note that i can’t handle long nails and I like to keep them short) can I do my nails a nude color? What do you guys think?

You cannot paint your nails if you work in food service. It’s not food safe because if the nail polish chips into drinks or food, it can be dangerous.

some food service places can, but starbucks specifically cant

They’ll have you remove them, we a girl quit over her nails

My store is more relaxed than most places. I’ve had people who get french manicures/ nude colors that you can’t see at first. So just don’t do it?

It’s not a colour thing, it’s a health code thing. if an inspector comes and sees you have nail polish that’s really bad news

don’t do it. Just because you’ve seen other people do it doesn’t mean you should - you’re purposefully skating around a rule you’re aware of and I’m sure you know the reasons behind.

no no no not at all. nails are one of the strictest parts of the dress code since it’s a food safety issue with them chipping into food/drinks. even if your stores dress code is a bit more relaxed nails are a big no no

Maybe you can paint them but wear gloves on your shift?

10/10 would not recommend this. Last year I had a big cut on a finger that needed stitches and a large wrap over it. I had to wear a glove to keep it dry and it was almost impossible to do anything at work. Pulling stickers for drinks was a nightmare, I couldn’t keep ahold on any empty cups, I couldn’t hold on to change any customers gave me, I couldn’t use one of my hands for CS roles like doing dishes… I couldn’t wait to get my wound to heal enough that the wrap could come off and I could stop wearing the glove.

Good point, I could.

Just be aware that the gloves will get gross/you will go through a lot of them. They are also a nightmare to place stickers on cups with, unfortunately

I just wear gloves if I don’t remember to take my nail polish off, I’ve never had an issue with my manager about that.
