All our registers went down today 🥲(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by SpAcEcAt_94
So title says it all. I worked from 10a-4p today and it was HELL. All our registers went down at least once today. At one point we were handwriting cups... which was made more difficult by the fact that most of us are new (due to new store) so we don't know the codes (yet).
We had a bunch of angry customers cuz everyone was new today (including a new transfer shift) so we were all a little panicked. My actual response to another barista coming in after the issues were resolved? "This place is whimsical and fun 🥲".
🙃 anyone else work in hell or just my store?

If all of them were down how did you calculate prices?
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]7 points2y ago
Sorry for the extra comment - on prices, the shift just told us to tell customers that their drink was on us today and explain that we were having technical issues with the registers. So for the few customers who had the timing to where they showed up during when all of the registers were down, they got free drinks. The shift wasn't sure what else to do.

This was the right thing to do on your shifts part until they can contact the manager.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm not entirely sure what happened because we stayed open through it all and about 3 hours into my shift everything seemed fixed - just super slow (like the computers were just having issues processing everything). The registers now also make noise when you hit buttons... which is different. They didn't do that before.

Button noise is a setting somewhere under functions - I don't recall exactly where, but it is something you can adjust.

Sorry. I didn't say that correctly - all of them were down or went down at least once today. Our shift managed to get one of them running (barely) in order to have customers pay at one of the front registers while the rest were frozen/restarting. They all went down together for about 10 minutes? Then it would fluctuate on which ones were down and which were rebooting.
Before that happened, they were all refusing to let any payment through and the DTO register/screen kept restarting, working fine for a minute, and then shutting back down for a solid hour or 2. Something with a production error for the payment and then the tech on the phone with the shift mentioned Windows 10 update glitches? I'm not sure. My brain is trying to wipe this entire day from memory tbh.

That usually happens because register 1 is having network issues.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points2y ago
Ohhhhh... that makes sense.
I'm assuming the network issues was having to do with the Windows 10 update that the tech mentioned while on the phone with my shift?

Our registers have been going in and out the past two days so we're all paranoid when it'll happen next. Oh and our wifi still isn't set up because we're also a new store so customers aren't too happy about that on top of the shortages
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]1 points2y ago
Oof. Yeah. Our wifi is also wack rn. It says you're connected or something and then obviously nothing happens. Customers keep coming up and setting up their laptops/etc and then they're like "oh, your wifi doesn't seem to be working". We all sound like broken records with explaining the wifi issues. What makes it worse is that we're just off an exit ramp from a busy interstate/highway, so everyone is stopping and cranky from traveling 🥲.

All of ours went down at the same time a few weeks ago. It was CRAZY and I have respect for anyone who has to go through that. Hope they didn't stay down for too long.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points2y ago
Oof. Most of the time it fluctuated on which ones were down and which ones were up. All of them were down together for a 10-20 minute span where we wrote on cups and receipt paper for orders. Other than that 10-20 minute span of time, we had at least one register at least working somewhat. It was stressful but a good experience I suppose looking back - I have somewhat looked at codes for drinks. I'm glad I have at least looked at them, the other newbies were like "... these are letters..." so I at least was aware that M was Mocha, L was Latte, etc etc.

ours were down this morning for a bit but luckily we managed. no one around us was out though so interesting that yours were down as well.
SpAcEcAt_94 [OP]2 points2y ago
Well we asked the tech and he explained that they update 90 stores at once with Windows updates... maybe your store was one of the ones with the update last night?
Apparently it causes some glitches with a few stores each time.
