Post-covid mobile handoff has been a mess (self.starbucksbaristas)

Since a couple days ago we have changed our mobile handoff to be not behind a barrier and have everything laid out on a mat. I didn't work at or ever go to sbux prior to last summer so I never worked here before, but apparently that's how we used to doing it. Anyways. It's been a really frustrating experience with customers. Still most of our pickups are in the drive thru so it's harder now to locate them, because all of the stickers face the cafe. Despite that, custys still look at them like it's all a foreign language and ask if this or that cup is their drink. It's becoming really tedious when every couple minutes someone will walk into the store and ask if the pink drink is theirs or whatever. Like I'm supposed to know who the heck they are or what their order was when they just walked inside from the street. We have all run out of polite and patient ways to say "if its what you ordered and it has your name then it's yours".

We have started to plant a barista outside the counter at the mobile and cafe hand off. I was asked to do it for the first time at 7 AM last Sunday. I actually googled the role because I had never heard of it and didn't know all of what was expected of me. They system I worked out for myself was that I took the mobile order slips when they printed (not the stickers) and watched for all the items in the order to come so that whether the customer came through drive through or walked in I knew if it was complete or lacking something. I identified items for DTO so they got moved over there for out the window. I greeted customers who walked in and helped them find their mobile orders. Warming was crazy busy and it occurred to me that I could bag up multiple food item orders to save warming time but without bags they don't really have a good way to convey items to the handoff. Maybe they should have a bin to put completed warming items in to convey them to DTO and the mobile/cafe handoff to let us bag items up down there. Just some thoughts I had while I kind of stood there trying to work out a system feeling a little undirected.

Imagine having enough coverage to even have this position. You are a blessed store. I dont even have a warmer 95% of the time

Yes, we are staffed up! SM says it’s temporary, we’re losing 6 in August to school

Honestly this baffles me.

We have not been keeping drinks behind a barrier for months and have been using the mats Once in a great while we have a customer that doesn’t understand the principle of it but for the most part it is seamless. I know there are a lot of behavior differences geographically speaking but I honestly don’t understand why this is an issue. We also just make sure the sticker is facing out and high enough to show the name above the sleeve (if it’s a hot drink).

Put labels on the back of your mats (facing the counters) with the alphabetical breakdown (ie A-F, G-M, etc) so you guys can see them from behind the bar.

I hate it so much! Everyone is so confused- customers and baristas. Trying to find a specific drink is impossible
