[grande rant] ssv power trip (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by slowflickers
Is anyone else's store filled with partners wanting to become ssv? i think everyone except for me and two other partners want to become shifts. It's kind of annoying because they're all on a power trip 24/7. They just hand out task cards, complain that we're "not" following starbucks policy, switching positions and etc... even though we have REAL shifts.

It feels like the my store gets more toxic every time i step foot in there. It's completely unwelcoming when almost all my partners are shitting on each other just prove they're "better".

Yeah none of them should become shifts with that attitude. In fact the last thing a REAL shift wants is to appear to have any sort of special power or complex over their partners. Everyone will actually hate you if you are a shift that does that. Good shifts lead but do a lot of listening. Furthermore the best shifts can set up their play so partners are flexible and aware enough to speak up when there needs to be change. We coach by example and do a lot of first “what you are doing is incorrect” “the standard is this” “we do it BECAUSE xyz”. It sounds like your fellow baristas are missing the why aspect and are just telling people they are wrong which is not how supervisors coach. And finally we dont get paid enough to do all that shit your partners are trying to do lmao.

That's exactly what i'm thinking! ive had excellent ssv in the past and they did nothing but help us baristas. These wanna be ssv are really throwing each other under the bus for an extra 50 cents

I want to be a shift and work my way up but I don't even want to apply until I can be a great barista. I'll be hitting 6 months soon but I just started getting put on bar and I'm still learning and will continue to learn as much as I can. A lot of people want to skip over the seemingly mediocre parts but that's the backbone of it all. People who never realize they're not ready for something will make it difficult for everyone around them.

I’m a barista who just self demoted about 5 months ago. I don’t think people realize the amount of work that goes into it for only $2 more an hour. It’s impossible to get shift coverage, you have to stay late, you have to do tedious task etc etc
