so today is gonna be my first day without a trainer, and i’ve been told i’ll be on CS. honestly, this is the position i feel the least comfortable with ... like i’m probably better on bar even than i am here. i’m super nervous for today because i want to do the best i can with getting everyone things they need but i’m so new that it’s hard for me to tell when people need things, or where these things even are. i know how to brew coffee and the cadences and everything so that’s easy, but after that in the cycle it’s technically “clean high-touch surfaces” based on how i’ve been trained, but i kinda doubt i need to go around cleaning THAT often? like i feel like it’s more important to check bar and see what they need?
anyways, any tips for being the best CS i can be with not much knowledge? do i really need to clean after every time i brew coffee, or should i prioritize bar needs? thank y’all ! :)

hi! so my manager/trainers always emphasized that it’s “customer support”, meaning to make sure the customer areas are clean (take out trash, bathrooms, tables) and that customers are being taken care of. so do that, however, what i SEE the most is them helping the baristas a lot. just make sure that their fridges, cups and syrups are stocked. Also, pay attention to their espresso beans to see if those need refilling. Brew coffee every 30 mins. Since it’s your first time alone, I really recommend using the little guidance card things that tell you what to do for CS (a trainer should’ve shown you but if not ask around to see if your store has them). If it’s busy, I recommend wearing a headset, because then the baristas can communicate with you and ask you to refill something if they’re low. But most of all just be vigilant and try to train yourself to notice the things that need help. your coworkers probably understand that it’s your first time on your own and that you’re not going to be perfect, and that’s okay! good luck!

Exactly this! This position used to be called store support but they renamed it since you are supporting the customer experience. You start with making sure coffee is brewed and available, checking customer areas and check the rest of the barista areas (bar, warming, cold bev) that they are stocked and able to fulfill orders. If you’re feeling nervous, use the cycle task cards. And you can’t go wrong with just throwing in some dishes if you don’t know what to do!

Hi there! I'm most comfortable with CS and POS because those are what I do the most at work honestly and it's not as complicated as you thing. Just remember to keep a timer on you. Brew your coffee. Make sure the floors, tables counters, and windows are clean. (Windows you can just spot check.) Make sure you look around in the bar to see if you can see anything is low and if you can't tell, just ask your coworkers what they need restock, more than likely if they need something they'll tell you. But I can already tell you that Ice, Milk, and Cups will mainly be what you are restocking.
Make sure you change your sanitizers!
And then just go pick a cycle card and do that until your timer goes off! It'll be less stressful when your actually doing it.
Plus I find it relaxing because you can have some time to yourself while still being helpful. :)
I hope this helped!

y’all it ended up going totally fine today !!! everyone there was so nice and helpful to me, it really wasn’t as crazy as i thought it would be and after about an hour i started to really get in the groove of it and understood what i was doing, and it was fun ! we all talk to each other over the headsets and everyone is so funny on there, i really love my store <3

My first day no trainer is tomorrow, and I actually have no clue what I am doing, so I am nervous. I feel like Customer support is where I am the most comfortable. Since it was easier for me than memorizing a bunch of numbers. Also I am very OCD and cleaning and restocking is like my jam.
It is the number of shots, pumps, etc, that I don't have fully memorized. Yes I have a cheat sheet I got from reddit that helps, but yeah.

if ur store is like mine, which i feel like hopefully most are, everyone is SUPER nice and patient with u. don’t be afraid to ask questions!! there’s a very low chance you’ll be on bar tomorrow, or even within the next couple of weeks. today i made two drinks, minus the ones i made for myself, and that was just because i had a minute to spare while on CS and there were orders coming in while everyone else was busy. but yes if ur on CS you’ll definitely love it, i honestly enjoyed it a lot today! just talking to coworkers on the headset, doing dishes, making things like whips and sweet cream, it’s fun and i didn’t have to interact w a single customer today lol. but yeah most people are really nice and if not everyone is at ur store, definitely just try to find one or two people that are nice about answering questions for u ! you’ll be totally fine, i promise <3
