Did you guys hear about the new point system coming in July?(i.redd.it)

Lol, if SB corporate keeps imaging people will want jobs with the continued tom fuckery they pull they need to wake up.
The past 2 weeks have seen more walkouts then I've ever heard of, they are hemorrhaging workers but think adding more arbitrary rules will what?... punish people into working?
Starbucks is great to its partners, but until they recognize that they need stating pay to 15.00 an hour this will continue.
Remember, the CEO got 25 million as a bonus last year, how many people did he serve drinks to? They have the money, they just don't have it for you! Whats his customer score? Has he ever had to close or open solo from lack of other workers? If they are going to tell YOU thats why they won't pay more then the same should be true for every member on the BoD.
sunflowercupcakee54 points2y ago
All of employees who have been there over a year have quit. It’s shifts, me, mostly green beans, and a few partners under 9 months old. We can’t even fully staff our store without borrowing partners 3 out of 7 days. A store in our district can only open 7 to 5 Monday they Friday from lack of employees. Our employees could literally walk out the door and go get employed at 5 different corporations and make more money than they are currently making. What Starbucks should be asking is what can I do to make my employees stay.
throwrasouseless47 points2y ago
right? im a month in and im already ready to quit. the amount of true genuine effort (DESPITE THE LACK OF PROPER TRAINING) i put in to this job for a lousy $10... ummm i could easily find another entry level job that pays $12-13 or work at amazon and make $18 by the end of the year and do HALF the work. this pay for this amount of effort is weak af and really infuriating because working 6 hr shifts at $10/hr is just not enough for me. the benefits dont make up for it either
ProcessSorry564313 points2y ago
We make like a minimum of $13 in the Chicagoland area. I’ll be making almost $18 as shift. Would it be enough from Starbucks if they have like a $13-15 minimum across the board.
TylerJ7169 points2y ago
I'm also Chicagoland but from rockford area. A coworker from a different company was offered a shift position from our mutual coworker to start at $12 an hour. 🙃 I told I make more just a few miles away as a fresh barista and to not take it for that pay. We all should start out at $13 to $15 I swear.
xMoon_Faeryx1 points2y ago
I'm from down south and only make $14.61 as shift. It's insane how much it varies just in a single state
CampLeo10 points2y ago
I left to do customer service for a furniture company. I'm making $17.00 an hour and get to sit down all day. I was making $14.50 at SBUX.
TrueCrime101-12 points2y ago
Then leave.
I hear a lot of people complaining on here every day, but you all are still here.
I’d rather staff my store 5-2 every day with partners who want to be there than stay open all day with partners who trash the company on Reddit and create a negative company culture.
Not everyone hates Starbucks. I’m sorry your experience is so negative. If other opportunities exist, take them.
Also, for the record, I’ve worked at Amazon and you’re out of your mind if you think it’s half the work.
Most partners who stay do it for exactly what you just complained about. You work 6 hour shifts. Find another job where you can work less than 8 hours a day and qualify for benefits. You can’t, so contrary to what you just said, the benefits DO make up for it.
Even chick-fil-a, which is the only fast food in my area paying $15, only offers full benefits for full-time employees. They also only offer the “opportunity” for a scholarship, whereas every benefits eligible partner can go to ASU for free with very little hassle.
Those benefits matter to a lot of people.
Edit: downvote me all you want, but I’m right.

Found the Starbucks CEO
Laylaaaax [OP]4 points2y ago
I’m scheduled for 8 hour shifts a day for 5 days a week as a BARISTA 🤭 - more hours than most of my shift managers
ElijahLordoftheWoods3 points2y ago
People like you are why corporations think they can get away with this stuff. Hope they gave you a big fat bonus for that statement. You should share
throwrasouseless2 points2y ago
right sooooo you dont know my situation so. i could work anywhere else as in there are plenty of other jobs, and i WOULD, but my situation doesn't grant that hence why im stuck at this lame ass sbux.
the benefits dont make up for it. seriously? $10/hr for 6 hours? my car takes $60 for gas a week on top of my $1200 rent. does that sound like livable wage? no. so no, your "benefits make up for it" is bullshit. i ask for more hours where i can BECAUSE i need to LIVE. benefits dont give me money for me to live. i need a roof over my head, gas for my car, food for me to eat, and clothes on my back. do benefits cover that? no.
$10/hr ANYWHERE that is a multi million corp with a ceo that gets MILLIONS in their yearly bonus is UNLIVABLE and BULLSHIT no matter HOW good the benefits are. i dont care about scholarships. i don't care about spotify. i dont care about any of that when im struggling on sbux's shit ass wage.
reading this made my eyes bleed. seriously.
also, for the record, my mom works at amazon making $18 an hour, hasn't even been there for a year, has great medical benefits, and despite her bad back and feet, the job she has within the company is MUCH easier. shes literally videoed me (and i have recorded them for safe keepings, but right there is proof she does actually hardly anything thats harder than sbux bro) to show me her working.
if i had the opportunity to, and my situation was different, yes, i would leave. i can't work my ass off and get bread crumbs for it and magically be happy about it when the disconnected ceo is sitting on their ass watching us struggle and making millions all the while and STILL refusing to give us a couple more dollars so we can eat.
when a multimillion dollar corporation is paying you CRUMBS but expects you to learn a MILLION different things, trains you HALF-ASSEDLY for a total of 2 weeks if youre LUCKY (my training was a total of 5 days :))))), and expects you to actually have the time to connect with customers for a shit ass rating when most just want to be left alone and in and out once they get their drink or whatever while youre overwhelmed with literally everything and they cant even compensate by giving me a living wage...
yeah. somethings not right. corporate kiss asses who think this shit is okay doesn't help either. :)
Laylaaaax [OP]18 points2y ago
And what makes it worse is that people are PISSED about shortages which is TOTALLY out of our control. I got cussed out this week for not having caramel drizzle. LIKE SERIOUSLY CARAMEL DRIZZLE
kizzythaboss9 points2y ago
We just had one of our girls leave last week, today, 2 put in their 2 weeks notice. I work at Target and all they've done is reshuffle people already there, and hire 1 new barista who's going to be leaving in August to go back to school. They made it to where I'm barely at Starbucks anymore and at this point, I'm considering leaving too. They mess up hours by scheduling outside of availability then feign ignorance about who's responsible for changing people's availability outright without consent or prior notice. 15 an hour isn't worth this mess.
greyplains50 points2y ago
I'm so glad I transitioned out when I did! Point systems DO NOT WORK! They create unnecessary stress and do not account for actually being able to live an actual life.
Laylaaaax [OP]12 points2y ago
PREACH.
hecaete473 points2y ago
Saw a horrid story on TikTok recently of a person who sat in a bathroom stall in Walmart for 8+ hours because if she got another point, she’d be terminated but she needed to feed her family but was extremely sick. Point systems don’t work and will only have lower productivity from having sick workers on the floor to avoid points. Ugh.
No_Yogurt_460246 points2y ago
Wawa is doing $13/h and a $500 sign-on bonus where I live, compared to SB'S $10/h and no bonus.
Fucking McDonald's and Taco Bell are doing $12/h and I think Taco Bell is also doing bonuses. Starbucks needs to acclimate.
Laylaaaax [OP]10 points2y ago
They have the reference thing though which I guess is an attempt to bring people back after all the walkouts
Jew_37 points2y ago
Taco Bell by me literally pays the day after the first shift.
egiappaige29 points2y ago
Wdym point system
Laylaaaax [OP]70 points2y ago
It’s a 7 point system until we’re fired. I just know a no-call no show is gonna be 5 points and every time you’re late over 5 mins it’s a point
sunflowercupcakee143 points2y ago
I better get a point back for every day I stay after 5 minutes cause we are short staffed and dying
jugularvoider66 points2y ago
Time to unionize
Laylaaaax [OP]34 points2y ago
Yup. Unfortunately I think this is my last month with the bux I’m so exhausted with the company mentally and physically
acelestialgay14 points2y ago
I’ve legitimately spent my entire last week saying this, loudly, to everyone.
Jew_310 points2y ago
I run a WPS store in Mid Michigan and I’m a proud member of UNITEHERE Local 24 and our steward. If anyone in mid Michigan needs help in organizing, please reach out to me.

r/unionizestarbucks
TrueCrime1011 points2y ago
I’m all for the union, I’ve even been in several. What do you think the union is going to do for you in this situation? They just get to negotiate terms. There will still be rules in place for what can and can’t lead to termination. You still won’t get to just not show up to work without threat of termination. Starbucks will just have to show “just cause” before firing you, and not showing up to work is a pretty good reason.
Also, I’d hate to see the complaints on here from partners making $10 when they also have to pay union dues.
sheep_heavenly1 points2y ago
Nobody is saying they want to NCNS without retribution.
Also, union dues are generally a percentage of your pay. At a pretty decent paying job of mine it amounted to $20 a month in exchange for the right to vote on workplace matters, proper healthcare, the ability to have a union representative act as a mediator when a manager went out of line.
LIt was amazing, and I'm having a hard time understanding how you can say you support unions and then give the bog standard anti-union lecture.
xenfoes8 points2y ago
Yeah where did you hear this?
Laylaaaax [OP]21 points2y ago
My manager told me. We should be having 1on1s soon about it
capybaraRage22 points2y ago
I'm a manager right now and haven't heard of this...nor would I implement something like that. If your manager is saying this, that's effed and I'm sorry to hear that :/
atomicartemis21 points2y ago
It's totally possible that thats just something your individual manager is doing
coffeegirrrl3 points2y ago
Also a SM, this is not a company thing. There are far too many issues with something like this. We also pay supervisors more than $20/hr in my district.
hopelovepeace332 points2y ago
That’s some fucking bullshit! Starbucks doesn’t have the fucking luxury to be firing people because they are fucking late due to life happening, I understand the no call no show but being 5 minutes late is absolute BULLSHIT!
TrueCrime1013 points2y ago
They’re not firing you for being late. They’re firing you for being late *repeatedly*. It’s not a hard concept.
hopelovepeace332 points2y ago
First of all you don’t need to be a fucking DICK & second of all that’s not what the person said because I haven’t personally read or heard ANYTHING about this dumbass point system until I saw this post. Even with people who repeatedly run late don’t need to be fired because AGAIN with as fast as people are coming in they are fucking leaving just as fast because they are fed up with the bullshit that Starbucks is pulling, so they don’t have the luxury to be firing people for running a few minutes late.
meloscav1 points2y ago
Oh fuck that’s WORSE than Sheetz
TrueCrime1011 points2y ago
49 out of 50 states are at-will to some extent. I’ve worked for retailers who fire on the spot for no-call no-shows, and give you a lot less lenience than a 7 point system would.
Any job in the United States except for Montana can fire you with no cause other than “you didn’t fit the company culture”. Starbucks is choosing to put a system in place so that Baristas aren’t forced out by managers who just don’t like them.
Being mad because you might get fired for being late or not showing up to work is ridiculous.
Edit: also, nothing has been released about this, so like the SMs on here have said, this sounds like something someone made up.

It points your ass out the door.
Laylaaaax [OP]12 points2y ago
That’s all I heard so far, and that there’s gonna a 30 day probation period for everyone so they can let you go in tbe 30 days if they feel like it
egiappaige12 points2y ago
Where did you see this? Partner hub?
[deleted]1 points2y ago
[deleted]
Lucky_Ant_24108 points2y ago
My last job put me on 30 day probation cause a shift leader didn’t like me but how they put it was “if YOY don’t emprove in 30 days we will have to let u go “ because they didn’t like me they rarely scheduled me so out of those 30 days I would work maybe 3 days so I just quit cause they don’t want to to improve when u get put on one of this anyway they just want to avoid a law suit
Laylaaaax [OP]5 points2y ago
Yeah that’s exactly what’s gonna happen at the bux unfortunately
FfierceLaw25 points2y ago
I recently saw a post where a partner met with a new SM and she had his records and told him he already had 4 points - for things that happened a couple of years ago! Anybody else see that? I just thought it was a crazy district and/or a crazy SM!
Laylaaaax [OP]17 points2y ago
Wow that’s ridiculous I’d be fired by then 😭😭
FfierceLaw8 points2y ago
It was posted just a day or so either here or r/Starbucks. I can only imagine the bs flowery corporate speak they’ll use to announce it

Oh, then I'm probably already fired lmao.
okayplant20 points2y ago
Literally the only reason I’m still suffering through this hellhole is because I’m getting free college. I’ve got one more year and then I’m getting tf outta there. How much is this company worth?? And they can’t bear to give us a few dollars more an hour?
MaddyIDaddy1 points2y ago
Same. I’ve been going full-time and only working the bare minimum of about 20 hours. I’ve been pulling loans just to pay my rent just because working at this place makes me miserable.
acelestialgay13 points2y ago
Friday was my last shift. Glad I’ve gotten out.
Laylaaaax [OP]7 points2y ago
I’m done after July amen
shikiP12 points2y ago
I hope if you guys unionize it stays a good union and fights for you. As a krobux I find the kroger unions can be a hit or miss locally.
However, it makes it hard to fire anyone at Kroger because of the union. Which is mostly good, unless you have a coworker who doesnt give a shit. But I'd rather have a system that makes it hard to fire a worker.
vkapadia11 points2y ago
I've worked for Starbucks corporate seven different times. Never been a retail partner though. But I have several friends that are baristas and I keep an interest in your experience.
Every time I come back to Starbucks, you guys have it worse and worse. Barista experience has only gone downhill. I really hope they turn things around.
TheLernaeanHydra9 points2y ago
Great. One more reason to leave atop a mountain of reasons, and I'm not even three months in yet.
jazzyj00238 points2y ago
Our store had such a solid team for a while, but our SM kept treating us like trash, even on our best days. She wouldn’t give people their requested time off or work with people around their schedules. So people started leaving. We really only asked for basic things. If those things had been honored, so many of us would still be there.
D735485 points2y ago
Im a 3 year partner and i put in so much for my store just to get paid dirt. If i didnt leave my last job(for school) i wouldve been getting paid $20/hr. This past month, ive never wanted to walk out so bad. I have to leave. My mind and body cant take this beating anymore.
cringeqween134 points2y ago
Both my stores night SSV are leaving and with that a lot of our night shift are thinking about leaving or transferring. Our store is a neverending shit show with something breaking or going wrong every other night and always being understaffed on one shift and overstaffed on the other. I love our SM but this is her first time managing a store and she's being a bit of a pushover when it comes to our DM. Instead of people getting properly trained she just keeps hiring more people. I've been here since mid Feb. and the only formal training I had was the stuff on the computer and how to use the POS. Everything else has been a learn on my own sorta thing. We have baristas who have been here just as long as me and are put on bar making drinks wrong and no one tells them different. TLDR: My store is fucked.

I only have 2 more shifts left at the Starbucks I'm at, granted it's inside of an Albertsons. I worked for Starbucks corporate locations though on and off for 5 years and I'd never work there again in my life, even for 15 an hour. I get paid more at the Albertsons then I did working for 3 years straight at a corporate location. I'm starting a higher paying job at Aldi soon though, and I've heard a lot of good things about the company, so hopefully it'll work out good haha can't be worse than Starbucks, especially at 20.50 an hour. I'd get on my knees and clean the floor with a toothbrush for 20.50 an hour lol
NontrivialZeros1 points2y ago
I’m super glad my last shift was at the end of May.
