I’m only about a month into the job and i’m 17, i was just wondering how do you guys cope with the stress mentally? it’s getting to me a bit, i can power through but i just can’t stop bursting into tears at work (i don’t let customers see)

Sometimes, quitting is the way to go. This job truly isn’t for everyone. And that’s okay! Personally, this job causes me very little stress. I work two jobs 7 days a week and Starbucks is my fun, easy job (and I work at the busiest store in my district. We have had some pretty awful days throughout this pandemic). But there was a time where this job was absolute HELL for me. Every shift I was depressed and angry, I couldn’t sleep at night because I was stressed out about the next day, I’d wake up crying because the sound of my alarm gave me panic attacks. My wife would literally have to hold me while I cried every morning and encourage me to get up and brave another day. So I quit. No job is more important than your mental health.

I’m the same i keep having panic attacks, i’m being bullied too and my manager isn’t helping, i’m just worried it’s too soon to leave

Have you considered transferring? Looking back on when my experience was so awful, I realize it was largely to do with my team. My manager was awful (she literally wrote up my coworker for not finding coverage when she missed her shift after a suicide attempt. She was terrible) and my partners were catty. I wish I had just transferred stores, I probably would have stayed with the company.
Nowadays I work at what would be a stressful store, but it’s not because my team is awesome and my manager is very supportive. The right team really makes a difference

Honestly i love my team apart from the girl who is bullying me, i have mentioned it several times to my manager now but he hasn’t done anything, i think the stress is too much for me. i’m 17 and this is my first job and i’m also chronically ill, i don’t think my mental and physical health can handle it. i have really tried my hardest

You don’t have to justify yourself I promise. Your feelings are valid. If this job is taxing on your physical and mental health, fuck it. You did the best you could! It’s okay to quit when what you’re doing isn’t serving you. I’m sorry your manager isn’t supporting you the way you deserve to be.

It’s a hard job!! I will say it gets better after a month or so because you get much more comfortable with the job but you’re young and this job kinda beats people up. Do what’s best for you pal!!
