Im sort of new to Starbucks, been there for a couple months. I mostly work nights but recently worked my first Saturday morning. I was told to do front and warming, which was fine except the way the shift explained it to me sounded like it was also mixed in with a cs role? i was asked to wipe down tables and sweep and then do some dishes. but then while i was doing dishes i was being called back out front to take orders. is that normal? i don’t really understand how i’m supposed to be in two places at once, taking orders on a busy saturday morning and also doing a huge pile of dishes. i was doing the dishes as fast as i could and still told it wasn’t fast enough and that i needed to be up front. it was so overwhelming and i’m not sure if i just wasn’t prepared for that and didn’t understand what order i was supposed to do the tasks in. it’s kind of making me anxious to work another morning

The shift just doesn’t want you to be standing around when there isn’t any customers to help/ make food. So they’re giving you other tasks you should be doing while there is “down time”. I would refrain from going to the back just cause, like you said, you literally can’t be in two places at once. But if you had down time, and you decide to sweep or wipe down counters, then you’ll be able to see customers walking in or food tickets popping up. As a shift who’s works mornings and nights, I do know that positions entail different tasks depending What time of the day you’re working.
Just do your best, and tell your shift you’re doing your best and if your best isn’t good enough they can figure it out.

yeah i understand sweeping and wiping counters because then i can see when customers come in. but i was so confused why i was asked to do dishes but still take orders up front at the same time

You’re not expected to be in two places at once. You grab front when there’s customers and then go back and do dishes when you don’t have any more customers to help.

people on bar should communicate to you over headset that you have a customer while you’re doing dishes

I could only assume that you guys were short maybe? Or maybe your shift just shit at managing people lol

Back in the pre-covid times, register was a pretty planted role, but now that most of the business is in the drive thru and mobiles, register does a lot of support stuff. I don’t know if your store gets assigned a customer support on Saturdays. Mine does, but being the sole person supporting the store on a Saturday can be overwhelming so it’s nice to have help from the person on register. Granted, my store also has a person assigned on just warming.

yeah, there was no one assigned to cs when that happened. it was just very confusing and also i’ve found that communication is a little difficult with my manager who was shifting at that time and a lot of the time i don’t really understand exactly what he’s asking me to do
