VENTI RANT: feels like this particular shift lead has it out for me (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by DefectedKnees
ive been out of training for a month and usually do morning shifts. during mornings, i get shift lead A or shift lead B and its always either of them during mornings. my shift usually starts when A is about to leave or when B has already started. A will put me anywhere and when B transitions to shift, i get put on CS. if A isnt there, im automatically always put on CS. for example, i would be on window for 10 mins and then B will tell me to get off and do CS or im making drinks and i have to get off to do CS. ive made MAYBE 20 drinks in total the whole month ive been off training.

honestly, it would be whatever, but when im on CS, B would get unreasonably upset at me. lets say im taking apart cold bar ice bin and putting it back together. i havent put ice in it yet so on my way to the back, B would say “go make cold brew toddy’s” i’d tell her i have to put ice in cold bar but she says “no, cold brew cant wait.” as im making the toddy’s she’ll come up to me and YELLS at me bc cold bar hasnt had ice this whole time. i explain that she told me to drop everything and make the toddy’s.

this happens all the time. i’d be in the middle of doing something, but she urgently needs something else done. as im doing the task she needed done, i get told off for not doing something else. its gotten to the point that the other baristas will apologize on her behalf and tell me to take shifts later in the day so i dont have to deal with her.

in the beginning, i took it as me paying my dues as a newbie who doesnt know much and will only slow things down. kicker is, this girl who got off training last week has been on bar more than i have.

maybe im being unreasonable but im debating on quitting. ive asked to be on bar and its always “no this needs to get done” or “no its too busy” so im giving it another two weeks. i cant take later shifts bc i take care of my grandma after work. dont know what to do at this point bc my manager absolutely adores her

If it is something other baristas are aware of, I would say it’s time to involve the SM. If they won’t deal with it, call the DM. And try to transfer stores before quitting…there’s a lot of favoritism in this company but you also have to stand up for yourself. I try to ask my baristas if they want to do something else if it seems like they’re over the position they are in during the play. Be mindful that mornings are busy so you won’t have time to get on bar unless it’s bar 2 and you’re just helping with bar 1 drinks. And don’t be upset if they tell you to get off bar and do something else…you have to keep your strongest people in place during peak, even if you don’t want to. It’s literally something a shift will get in trouble for. But maybe ask to be handoff or cold bar? Idk it’s so hot my brain is melting.
