I mean it’s even more fucked up bc I came here for the transgender benefits, and they’ll 100% cover most things that aren’t covered by regular insurance.
But when it IS covered by regular insurance, I’m just expected to pay for it myself. The procedure I’m getting in 5 months will cost 5-6k if I end up spending my out of pocket maximum on top of travel and living costs. Which isn’t the worst but with the wages we get paid? Not entirely feasible. I’m doing it though.

sheeeesh that is wild. we have a trans boy at our store and i dont know about his journey or whether or not he's going to further his transition physically, but he did come for the benefits as well and values it a safe place from home.
sbux has its pros and cons and all that with some of its benefits but i wish they would actually use the multimillions they get to give us, and especially minorities already struggling as it is, just a few dollars more to make that giant difference. but regardless i hope the best for you and your surgery in 5 months and i especially hope the results are what youve dreamed. :)

Ugh yeah don’t get me started, the amount I’m paying is pocket change to starbucks, they could easily cover it. I’m not singing graces to the company but I’m doing my best.

I'll be in this same situation as you hopefully next summer. Not excited to deal with all this crap, but hopefully it'll be worth it for covering the surgery in general.

Yeah, my best advice is to just take care of yourself as much as you can and try not to stress too much about the harder expectations of the job.
Also idk what surgery you’re getting but if it’s any assurance, I’m getting hair removal 100% covered (which is nice if you’re getting any sort of bottom surgery.) starbucks is cheap as hell and they’ll try to get it covered through regular insurance if you have a surgeon letter for hair removal on the surgery site, but I just pretended I never got a letter. :)
When you get hired, I’d definitely call Starbucks Advocacy @ 1 (866) 849-7103. That’s who’ll be handling most of your reimbursement if you can get anything 100% covered by starbucks itself. Feel free to dm me any questions now or later when you get hired.

Right now I'm just at a licensed store so I have some Starbucks expierence under my belt and can get hired at a regular store early next year.
I was fortunately able to get full body laser hair removal at cost for only $4000.
In my state, bottom surgery is covered by all insurance, so ill just be getting Starbucks to pay for facial feminization hopefully.

Most states don't even have to legally give you any break/lunch whatsoever. Very few have laws dictating how long you can work in a single day.

That is gonna be hard. When I have days like that I think about a little something special I'm going to buy myself with the extra money I'm gonna make. Sure it doesn't make everything better but it gives me something to think about while I'm working.
