venti-sized story
hey! i recently applied and was approved for an loa at my store after a horrible couple months; it was deteriorating my mental health and because of my history, i wanted to take a break before anything got worse, hence my loa application.

now, the store has its own backstory to it, but long story short i unexpectedly got sick recently. literally 5 days before my loa, i got a fairly high fever (101.2) and was experiencing severe headaches, body aches, congestion, grogginess and had the worst throat pain i’ve ever had. i was feeling shit.

according to the partner hub, you can only come back in for work if you’ve been fever free for 72 hrs without the aid of medication, but my manager was telling me 24. i also failed the covid coach, but they tried arguing that it didn’t apply to me if i was fully vaccinated—even though that’s actually only for if you’ve been exposed, not if you’re the one sick.

they threatened me with my loa, saying that if i didn’t work my shifts up until my loa then i wouldn’t be eligible for it, and when i offered to bring in a doctor’s note for it they said that starbucks doesn’t accept doctor’s notes, which i thought was strange. anyways, they asked me to come in today, and even though my note excused me from work until later, i decided to anyways because i felt bad and i wanted to qualify for my loa, but i feel that there are some things very wrong here.

not only was my sm quoting incorrect company information at me and tried bullying me into my shifts, they also have done this before. back in november when i was just a 1.5 month partner, my parents tested positive for covid and my sm told me to come in regardless since i ‘didn’t use the same bathrooms as them’ i’d be fine. i just see so many things wrong here and i was hoping an ssv or sm would be able to enlighten me more.

thank you so much!!

that’s.. definitely wrong. i’m not an ssv or sm, but from my experience with covid at my store since september, even if you came in contact with an infected person for 2 seconds at any point in time you were supposed to completely covid coach personally and be sent home immediately if failed. not only that, they would quarantine the same shift partners for 10-14 days.
the covid coach exists for a reason, this reason. it’s put in place to help stop the spread of disease and keep fellow partners healthy.

There are plenty of SM’s in my experience that will bully like this to get someone to come in. Time to call Partner Resources because this is some bullshit
