Who worked through the POS blackout of 2021? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Hoax_Pudding_Cup
Lemme see some hands, this morning was total bullshit! Can't take orders but can't go home, at one point we were handing out one drink per customer for free because we simply had no way of charging them. Anyone got some wild stories about this morning?

My heart dropped when people started coming in looking for mobiles and we all looked at each other like 👁👄👁mobile???????

LOL

I don’t think we ever had a complete blackout at any point. Our POS was just really slow and partner bevs weren’t going through right. We couldn’t reload cards and our mobile stickers were printing like 5+ minutes late
Hoax_Pudding_Cup [OP] 27 points 2y ago
I feel that in the mobiles, we got little spurts of orders every 5-10 minutes for some reason.
galaxyd1ngo 4 points 2y ago
That’s what it was like for us too!
throwrasouseless 6 points 2y ago
thats exactly what happened at our location this morning to a T lol

Oh shit. I thought it was just my store! No today sucked! I almost lost my shit with just stupid customers, but yeah our pos was down. Greeting from Nashville, tn

WI over here 😅 Our GM was guarding the door not letting people in while we tried rebooting everything 3 times, so much yelling omg
saddestgirl1995 19 points 2y ago
When the MOP stickers started coming out of the wrong printer I wanted to cry
hailvy 13 points 2y ago
Today freaking sucked. I was DTR too. Manager telling us to get times down but it takes literally 45 full seconds for the loading bar to finish and tell me it can’t process the card. People couldn’t reload their cards, and I was having to void stuff cuz the payment failed way after they had left
sparkeRED 8 points 2y ago
Seemed like our server went down? Starbucks cards took a hot minute to scan, usually brought up error prompts and we had to force confirm every transaction. Credit cards on the app worked fine. Also, mobile orders were choppy, like we would get a bunch at once and then have like a bunch of customers come in and not have their tickets. And partner numbers/rewards weren’t working right. Had to split one guy’s order into 4 because he wanted to use rewards for every item and it would only let me do one at a time
kitcat1210 7 points 2y ago
Oh wow ours wasnt that bad. Luckily we turned mobiles off right away and that helped for sureee because we later heard a lot of stores were having issues with mobiles not being completely sent thru and stuff. We only ended up having to give out a few free drinks. We couldnt reload cards or use rewards though. Our POS just went ungodly slow and that was really the worst of it for us.

I think in my 5 years at the bux we’ve had our pos systems restart several times and all the espresso bars break but I’ll never forget the year all our sticker machines just stopped working around thanksgiving/black Friday and trying to pull out how to remember to write on cups out of my ass.
lbatts14 6 points 2y ago
I remember this! We were having to write everything on cups and almost no one at my store knew how to do it 😭

A regular customer came in while mobiles were down. He reloaded his card, so I figured he ordered too, and I assumed his drinks would come through the cafe sticker machine while I was on bar. Nothing with his wife’s first name (that’s the account they use) was coming through. We’d already had a handful of customers mobile order to a different location by mistake. I figured it happened again.

We’re ALWAYS so nice to this customer, maybe even too nice. His wife is great, but he’s gotten really entitled. I looked over, probably looking a little … well, 👁👄👁.
I made the drinks he was waiting for, but, unrelated to the POS thing, we’d run out of strawberry inclusions.

This supposedly nice regular, as none of our mobiles came in, argued with me about how we’d not received his order after 20 minutes and how he paid for “extra fruit” in his drink. After a pleasant 5 minute disagreement (I calmly explained that you do not pay an extra charge for “extra” of a drink component already present in the recipe. He was having none of it,) he finally left with his blonde latte and strawberry refresher.

Let’s hope these stupid POS systems work tomorrow so I can show him there’s no charge 🧍🏼‍♀️

Omg... don't remind me 😫

Today and honestly since last week the entire system has been super slow. Mobiles also were printing like a solid 10+ minutes late (like everyone has been saying). I was on ovens/warming pretty much the entire time and doing food on the fly while listening over the headset. When I was switched, I ended up solo-ing DTO/DTR for the last 2 hours of my shift, luckily by that point the system was just slow. At least the printers were working. But it took forever for screens to load.

Luckily my store is located off of the interstate in a rural part of Indiana and no one was in a mad rush to get anywhere so we didn't get too many angry customers.

Hi from Missouri! Our cash and debit orders still worked at the front, but nothing worked in drive, anything on the app, gift cards, or partner markouts didn’t work, only bad for about an hour; then everything was slow for about 3-4.
golden_pinky 2 points 2y ago
Jesus Christ thank God I'm on COVID leave right now.
caffeinatedcinephile 2 points 2y ago
Oh, and my coworker accidentally gave away a $37 order after our register slowed down at DTR and he’d just assumed the customer had enough money in the app. At least that one was funny.
BornLoquat9 2 points 2y ago
on an off blackouts in my district for the past few weeks. However, they are not directly limited our direct starbucks. We had 2 block blackouts. The Pos systems have been going crazy and locked me out of the system for a few hours at a time. Other partners have not had same issues at same location. It always starts with our POS systems going down and then the whole store does not have power.
nicotinelover7 2 points 2y ago
Yep. No mobile orders for the rest of the day tho 😩
HollowRibcage 1 points 2y ago
*raises hand with some sass* I mentioned what it was doing to our inventory and our track of it because our manager gets on us if we don’t mark out every partner beverage because it’s labor and my shift just said - «  I don’t even want to think about that right now »
morwen538 1 points 2y ago
Was that what happened on Sunday?!
skylinegtrr32 1 points 2y ago
It was a blessing for me tbh… lol it was mobile order only and our stickers were still printing luckily so we just directed everyone to use the app and put orders through as if they were mobile ordering to our store. We walked people through it if they weren’t sure. Kept ridiculous cafe lines down and it was easier to manage for once. Our store gets slammed with a bunch of cash orders all day while mobile and uber is piled up so a day of just mobile was a relief. We only had 3 baristas for half the evening shift and then it was a 2 person close - just me and my shift. We go from like 7 people on the floor to 3 because night shift people call out like every day so it helped my sanity a little bit. Was kinda hoping it will be down again today when ai start my shift lol

All three of our computers went down one by one just before peak and I just thought ‘my licensed store training with cup codes has prepared me for this.’ 🤣

Okay so everyone’s day collectively sucked yesterday. I’m glad we weren’t the only ones on Starbucks. Who put a curse on us?? 🥲
LavalampClock 1 points 2y ago
our store uses a different pos system, so we didn't even know this was a thing o-o
AntiSp00kz 1 points 2y ago
Only issue we had (CAD partner) we couldn’t reload/activate cards, POS was super slow and we also ran out of stickers yesterday so we weren’t entirely sure what was going on today :’)
ilholtstilin 1 points 2y ago
Indianapolis IN here. We just had a few bouts of mobiles showing up late and our drive ticket printer stopped for like 25 minutes once. I had no idea it was that bad elsewhere; condolences to all who had it worse than we did 🥺
FeistyBottom911 1 points 2y ago
Aaayyyyeeee. That shit sucked. Our store never really recovered. But they had me stay hella late. Love that ot
sorrysmithy 1 points 2y ago
Mine went out yesterday, we had to close the lobby and go back to cup writing🤦🏼‍♀️
Adventurous-Path-976 1 points 2y ago
Bruh DTR has been horrible the past few days. We can’t process payments on the second register at window so we have to sprint to the front reg to cash customers out
Atakaii 1 points 2y ago
i was the manager running today and i had someone take orders outside to get stickers for drinks then had the window re ring it in when the customer came to the window and put ask me on any drinks/food that were reentered so they weren’t remade. we did great but sales were low :/
medusas-garden 3 points 2y ago
Yeah we had to do the same thing. We also have an older partner with early onset dementia and she can get confused easily with things running as normal so I knew there was no way I could have her on the window like she usually is. I had her do my learning training in the back until things were fixed which was 3/4 into her shift lol. Luckily we had just enough people to accommodate her not being on the floor.
susieee00 1 points 2y ago
I thought it was just my store wtf. But yeah it sucked
DieLawnUwU 1 points 2y ago
It was slower than death today. And our drive times were great until it started to crap out and I was so salty
NotyourangeLbabe 1 points 2y ago
Yikes, our system got a little slow but was totally back to normal by 7
