I’m so close to quitting. (Grande rant) (self.starbucksbaristas)

I just - I can’t anymore with the crap we put up with. We have to tolerate verbally abusive customers because we have none of the syrups, food or tea they want. We have to deal with shifts not doing their pulls until half our staff has left for the day, and getting screwed over with TWO PEOPLE on the floor during a rush.

I am in a very high volume store. My mental state was already in the trash before the shortages happened, and now that they’re here, I can’t deal with it anymore. With constantly being short staffed, angry people, giant orders all with different Frappuccino’s and at least 4 food items, and an open cafe, it’s so overwhelming. The manager doesn’t see any staffing issues. I still haven’t had my PDC from May. I’m getting minimum wage to run around like a chicken with its head cut off. I’m too freaking poor to quit, but the thought of walking out crosses my mind every day now. I need encouragement.

Edit: I’ve also never cried at work until I started at Starbucks. I’ve cried at work thrice now bc of my anxiety attacks.

I wish I had some words to help you..I’ve worked here for many years and usually when corporate makes a bad decision it takes a few months until they realize it and change it back.
I wish anyone hired into corporate were required to spend at least 6 months at a store as a barista.
That way hopefully they could make better decisions that actually make sense and improve experience for all. (Customers and partners. )

273 here—

Have you considered transferring? It sounds like your SM is part of the problem, maybe you can find an SM that actually listens to feedback about being short staffed. Also .. the morning pull is supposed to be done before 11AM so I don’t know HOW they’re not getting to it until later in the day.

I’m sorry to hear you’re so stressed out. Starbucks definitely isn’t what it was pre-pandemic, and it’s only getting worse. If transferring for whatever reason doesn’t work out, there’s plenty of jobs that pay the same if not more—get one lined up then put in your two weeks.

In the meantime, try to remind yourself that it’s just bean water and copious amounts of sugar. Remind yourself how RIDICULOUS it is that a grown ass adult would throw a FIT over some sugar or bean water.

I hope things get better for you, wherever you end up. ❤️

Thanks friend :) I was thinking about transferring, but every store in my district is like this from what I’m hearing. I have a few friends at each store. Right now I’m just job hunting so I can put in my 2 weeks as soon as I find one.

Retired 186 here

Quitting was the best decision I’ve ever made for my mental health. 9 years, 3 different stores, 5 different managers, and far too much “hanging in there”. I always thought I’d have a “yeah okay this was worth it” moment and that moment never came.
