Current barista interested in going into Starbucks corporate after I graduate (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by yellowlundi
Background on me: I am a university student graduating next spring and I want a job somewhere in the fields of UX research, product management, UX/UI design, digital design (specifically web), marketing research, customer experience research, etc.

So, I started working at Starbucks a few months ago as a barista. My store recently just got a new manager and when we were talking today, she asked me about my long term goals with Starbucks. I initially just thought I could work as a barista until I graduated but as we were talking I thought about how it would be cool to possibly work in a corporate role in one of the fields I want to go into after graduating. My manager seemed super supportive of me and made it sound like it is possible, but I wanted to see if anyone else has done something like this (like work your way up in the company) or if anyone else is similarly planning to do this. Also, what is Starbucks corporate like? I had never really thought about all the corporate jobs at Starbucks since everything is so customer facing, but I would love to hear if anyone has had any experiences with it.

I haven’t worked for starbucks long, im only speaking from what my coworkers have spoken to me about, which is that working up into corporate can be hard. I have a shift who is really good at what he does, and has been looking into corporate jobs for the past year. While it is entirely possible, you do have to consider that it will be competitive. As long as you have your manager and even district manager recommend/ support you I believe you should have one step ahead of others.
