What is everyone’s thoughts on this weeks WEEKLY UPDATE? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by iStealSharpies
Let’s all respect each other’s opinions! I just wanna hear how other people are feeling. Are you happy? Are you nervous? Anxious? Do you need to vent? I’d love to hear what you’re feeling.
fantasmicck 125 points 2y ago
I’ll do you one better- what did the weekly update say 😩
Js_On_My_Yeet 69 points 2y ago
I'm wearing a mask for 3 reasons:

1. Better safe than sorry

2. I'm ugly as fuck

3. You can't trust people's word on if they are vaccinated or not
streakystronky 5 points 2y ago
my SM told me that if you want to not wear a mask then you have to submit the form and show your vax card and then show the copy of the form every shift
iStealSharpies [OP] 52 points 2y ago
If you’re vaccinated you don’t need to wear a mask starting July 5th!!
fantasmicck 99 points 2y ago
Ohhh yeah I’m on the fence.. like I’ve been vaxxed since April but the new delta variant is a little worrying to me? And I REALLY cannot control my facial expressions any more I think I’m gonna deadass offend people with my RBF or if they’re pulling dumb shit I’m gonna look angry 🙃
LatteMaster -6 points 2y ago
Understand that variants happen because a virus adapts to multiply more. It cant multiply more if it kills people. You hear a lot about the delta variant and it spreading, however it hasnt been shown to be super deadly compared to other variants. Also they are freaking out over it because some vaxxed people in Israel happened to get it.
totaledtick9544 8 points 2y ago
people are dying to the delta variant but its also a lot more severe, hospitals in missouri at at like 200% capacity and its more infectious than the main strain of COVID-19 honestly i personally would like to be more safe than sorry and keep my mask on.
insecure-nightmare 19 points 2y ago
SAY SIKE RN.
iStealSharpies [OP] 7 points 2y ago
Nah this is FR
DanUK97 1 points 2y ago
Although true, here in the UK cases with those who have had the vaccine, once and twice are on the rise. We are waiting to see the data for the cases with vaccines death rate before our government makes any more decisions.
BroccoliKitchen5216 9 points 2y ago
I’m curious too I’m out of town so I can’t follow along

My favorite part was encouraging us to say "I'm sorry to hear that, it looks like you won't be getting a beverage with us today."
Other than that, I don't really have much thoughts. I know most, if not all, partners I work with are fully vaccinated, so I really wouldn't feel any different being around them. I'll probably keep my mask on because I like hiding behind it.
Alicat-and-Quasar 38 points 2y ago
Yes! I loved that bit honestly lmao it almost feels like they're empowering us to stand up to the customer ✨a revolutionary idea✨
Designer_Finish8805 10 points 2y ago
I don’t know about empowering us lol seems more like something they want us to say to get out asses kicked
iStealSharpies [OP] 18 points 2y ago
Good thing there’s a plexiglass divider to protect us from ass kickings r/sarcasm

Didnt read the weekly update because I haven’t worked yet … are we actually allowed to say that?? What was the context to it?
InternationalCat23 11 points 2y ago
If a customer doesn't want a partner to make their drink because of mask/vaccination status and demands someone else make it, we can respond with that.
lobosloboslobos 5 points 2y ago
The only time it makes sense for a customer to be picky and NOW they let us do that lmao, sounds like something the BoD would pull.
Ashamed_Equal 2 points 2y ago
That’s amazing!
here_forthefun 1 points 2y ago
I agree with all of this
Jadenvicious1 1 points 2y ago
Same
SewOnAndSewForth 65 points 2y ago
I’m still going to wear my mask. Not only does WHO still recommend it, esp with the latest variant putting up a fight, I have a kid who can’t be vaccinated yet.
existenaliens 12 points 2y ago
Same and same!

SewOnAndSewForth 13 points 2y ago
There is so much to unpack here but I will just leave it as I disagree with the CDC about removing the mask mandate when it did and have been wearing my mask.

And while you may not agree with WHO, I still consider what they recommend along with the CDC.

Regardless, my kid is unable to be vaccinated and I will be very cautious with her. We’ve already been sick from Covid once and don’t really want a repeat.
emma_bemm 34 points 2y ago
Mask is staying on ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ I'm just hoping ppl don't be mean about it staying on
Magnhild94 20 points 2y ago
I really appreciated the little dialogue bits. I'm glad I don't need to ask any partner to not make drinks because of mask/no mask status. If customers are to afraid to have a masked or no masked person make their drink they shouldn't be out in public to begin with.
allamericanogirl 16 points 2y ago
I don’t know if my logic is sound on this... but for some reason I feel safer when I’m working drive thru and I have a mask on. Just because of the smokers, people hanging out their window, and the sheer volume of people I’m individually serving for hours on end. I’m vaccinated, but I think I’ll keep my mask on when I’m working drive thru. Otherwise I’ll probably take it off. Thoughts?
i-amthebreadman 9 points 2y ago
i agree, i usually get sick a few times every year and this past year i haven’t been sick one time so i also feel like it helped prevents other illnesses too. people can be nasty and get super close to you and cough all over in your direction, and even if it’s not covid, i don’t want to get whatever they do have
TylerJ716 1 points 2y ago
Working drive during winter especially. My nose was so runny and we were so busy I couldn't blow it that often. I felt safer for myself and customers having my mask keep my drippy nose contained lol. I definitely would wear it on window during winter. Summers are rough tho I will say
hecaete47 16 points 2y ago
It honestly makes me very glad that I got the hell out of my store a couple weeks ago. There’s two unvaccinated individuals who are very anti-mask as well and I KNOW they’re gonna try to go maskless because the store manager doesn’t care.
iStealSharpies [OP] 17 points 2y ago
Technically they are supposed to prove they are vaccinated and fill out a form before they can go maskless. Hopefully managers follow this rule…
hufflepuffisonfleek 3 points 2y ago
Yeah the SMs have to see proof (I.e. your Vax card) before letting a partner go maskless.

As someone who lives with their parents (who are anti vaxx) I haven’t been able to get it unfortunately. But glad that they are at least giving us the choice
Catpants21 5 points 2y ago
Uh yeah same. I’m not being apart of that.
jilessio 13 points 2y ago
maybe it’s the “post”-pandemic trauma but i honestly like wearing masks and i kind of wish it would stay a common thing in industries like ours where we’re serving hundreds of people. people come in the cafe coughing and sneezing all the time, so it’s nice to have some protection. i also like doing half a face of makeup and being able to hide breakouts 🙃
tenthwalker 7 points 2y ago
Plus being able to wear my pimple patches under my mask, same concept as wearing a glove over a bandaid so it doesn't contaminate food and it helps my skin heal rather than being further irritated by the mask
mulberrybby 11 points 2y ago
Mine is coming off! fully Vaccinated since January and I’m excited. I usually only work nights so it’s pretty slow and I don’t interact with many customers. If I were to work a morning peak I would keep it on. I’ll definitely be keeping my mask with me at all times.
Kindly-Wear-6290 6 points 2y ago
This is exactly how I’m feeling. It’s also much easier to distance in the evenings as well.
chellichelli 1 points 2y ago
What the difference between a night shift and morning though?
mulberrybby 2 points 2y ago
The fact that in the last few hours that we’re opening we only get like 10 customers if that. Mornings as far as I’m concerned it’s more like 40 every hour. It’s just a lot less people and a lot less staff. I’m more comfortable taking my mask off with the same 3 people in our cafe (regulars) working with the same 3 staff.
ChezShea 10 points 2y ago
Apparently I picked a wild two weeks to visit family. This, the weird social sips thing, and the system outage today 😬
jazminxx 6 points 2y ago
I’m visiting family as well!! What’s the social sips thing?
shikiP 3 points 2y ago
Starbucks is advertising to customers on the app about the stupid social media drinks, like matcha with chai and pink drink with vanilla cold foam
cringeqween13 5 points 2y ago
Been seemingly like something wild happens every week lately
i-amthebreadman 9 points 2y ago
honestly for me, wearing masks has just become a comfort thing. i’ve been fully vaccinated for almost 2 months now so i’m not too worried abt getting covid but it just feels so uncomfortable not wearing a mask in public bc im so used to it. i’ve been taking small steps to try to get used to not wearing it, starting in very barren gas stations and stuff. i’ll be waiting a while longer before i take it off at work
thehellchild 9 points 2y ago
i'll be keeping mine on even though i'm fully vaccinated, but it's nice to know that the option is there. just hoping no customers take to getting unnecessarily pressed about it.
Catpants21 8 points 2y ago
Someone just called out of work with a fever and has to quarantine. I’m gonna keep the mask for a while longer.
I am vaxxed but I’d rather be safe than sorry tbh.
Mochithecatfoodthief 6 points 2y ago
Bold of the to assume I want to breathe the same air as everyone else
HippieinBlack 6 points 2y ago
I am very anxious. I haven't gotten the vaccine yet and I'm very anxious about getting it. I feel like people will take it the wrong way when I'm the only one that has to wear a mask and others don't. Of course, this is just my fear talking.
Ashamed_Equal 5 points 2y ago
I’m vaccinated, but I have the same concern as you … I feel like only letting some people go maskless opens the doors for vaccine shaming
Foxonney 0 points 2y ago
Hang in there! This mask/vax nonsense is going away slowly but surely. You are right to be anxious about getting an experimental vaccine that supposedly only last for a certain amount of time before you need an experimental “booster shot”
the1noir 6 points 2y ago
I’m ripping my mask off tbh
Foxonney 1 points 2y ago
Woohoo!! I’m right there with you brother
designated-grapes 5 points 2y ago
With the Delta variant spreading like wildfire, I'm going to turn in my proof of vaxx but keep wearing a mask forever.
meesh_kabob 1 points 2y ago
Very much same. Ima wait and see how things pan out with this variant before I rip the mask off lol
gihannalikowski 5 points 2y ago
I don’t feel comfortable getting vaccinated just yet because I am learning a lot about my own personal health this year (lots of tests lol) and I also would feel more confident if there were long term tests done. With all that being said, I don’t want my vaccinated coworkers to look at me differently or view me as “dirty” in a way because I’m not at the same level of comfort as them when it comes to this. It kinda feels like targets towards certain people when it’s a policy that affects partners differently depending on personal stances and opinions. That’s just where I’m at personally 🤷‍♀️
CoffeeChesirecat 3 points 2y ago
I agree with you. I'm worried about the division this will cause between partners. I'm also worried about customers targeting people for either wearing or not wearing a mask. I think these next few weeks will be rough.
Pinkgeek4life 5 points 2y ago
Okay so I’m in Canada and this is not happening here at all, they acc just went the opposite and made it mandatory for us to wear 3 ply masks😣
Foxonney 3 points 2y ago
I think 3-ply toilet paper should be implemented before we start adding more layers of mask
Kmsss 4 points 2y ago
I’m fully vaccinated , but I think for the most part I’ll have mine off. I’m not too worried because I live in an area where there’s a lot of people vaccinated, but my store is too damn hot for this shit. I love the idea of having masks in use for partners in general. There’s a lot of people that didn’t get the flu this year because of mask wearing. I think it’s a practice we should use more fluidly going forward.
badatlife15 3 points 2y ago
I’m fully vaccinated, have been for 2 months now. I will be keeping my mask on. I might possibly wait and put it on when we actually open since I’m primarily an opener, but even then I know there are a few people at my store who are not getting the vax. My full time job is as a caregiver for a child with an extremely rare genetic disorder that I would be beside myself if I got him sick. Plus like many have said I’ve gotten too comfortable wearing my mask and hiding my facial expressions and ugly face.
CoffeeChesirecat 3 points 2y ago
I'm not happy about the update and was hoping that Starbucks would be more inclusive by allowing partners to make their own choice on whether or not to wear a mask. I'm hoping partners remain respectful towards each other despite holding different stances and worry that customers will use this opportunity to show more of their ugly side as many of them have throughout the pandemic.
Foxonney 2 points 2y ago
Agree!! I would love to be able to make a decision for myself one of these days.
juelzzcc 3 points 2y ago
I have not gotten sick so, I trust nobody and nothing I will be fully vaccinated tomorrow and I will continue to wear my mask
Foxonney 0 points 2y ago
Except you seem to trust this experimental vaccine… maybe you should skip the scary chemicals and just wear a mask if you “don’t trust”
-Zispy 3 points 2y ago
Only reason I hate wearing masks is that my face is completely broken out, so I’ll be glad to finally let my face breathe. Before, my face was completely clear
iStealSharpies [OP] 2 points 2y ago
Me too dude. My face is SOOO bad now
aleksndrars 3 points 2y ago
Anxious! I want to keep wearing masks until they no longer require keeping health info on file and signing documents. I don't look forward to customers being rude about who chooses to wear or not wear a mask, and/or being the only person on the floor with one. I don't want people to be judgemental and make assumptions about who has or has not received a covid vaccine. I know many who will.
Foxonney 2 points 2y ago
Hell yeah masks have been a joke from the beginning.. Happy to never wear a mask again 🙏🍻
rio8envy7 1 points 2y ago
I’m not gonna lie I’m thrilled to have the option to not wear a mask and probably won’t. It screws with my glasses, makes my glasses foggy, I’m breaking out, and now that my stores AC is broken it gets sweaty af within seconds of coming in. I’m ok with being massless I think. If I’m not I’ll just start wearing them again.

While I’m very diligent about wearing my mask and don’t fully agree with you, thank you for speaking up about not being vaccinated I’m not either out of fertility paranoia and while I intend on wearing my mask fully and upholding everyone else I don’t know how I feel about not seeing an end date for all partners. 95% of our store is fully vaccinated but for those who are only half vaccinated or choosing not to I don’t know how to approach the conversation with this indefinite mask wearing.

I trust the science that says this Delta variant is not to be messed with. It’s highly transmissible, and none of us are vaccinated against this variant.
