so i'm at a store in phoenix, its over 100f outside and our ac in the front of house is broken so it's nearly the same temp inside as outside but the store manager is making us stay open despite it, customers are complaining non stop because it's awful. all of us baristas are taking turns shoving our heads in the freezer to cool down and it's just. so bad. i dont get how we can still be open with this.
update: i had to leave early due to experiencing symptoms of heat sickness but my store manager fought me on it, saying we only send people home if they throw up and that maybe i should just sit in the back for a bit to cool down :)

That sounds like an osha violation to me. If you can snap a photo of the ac showing the temp. The reason I say that is it’s always good to have documentation if you need it.

the thermostat isnt even on so we cant get a photo showing the temps inside

That in and of itself should be a violation lmao

Ok I work in Phoenix too and a store in my district lost AC and closed. I would definitely say something to someone. They ultimately dispersed the baristas to surrounding stores that had working AC lol

as someone who used to work in Arizona it’s against workers right and 100% illegal as it can causes deaths as we’ve seen in other states this past week
