A lot of partners in my store are getting or showing signs of arthritis. Anybody else?(self.starbucksbaristas)

I've heard of so many carpel tunnel cases. Has to be common considering the constant frequency in wrist movement.

Get a begleri. Get some kind of dexterity toy, it might help. Technically I believe you can make Starbucks pay for it since it's caused by pumping the syrups pretty often(I believe) but it woukd still go on your record that you complained to a corporation about some kind of "minor" injury. Most likely wouldn't put you in the best position with a company who cares little about their employees to start with.

Definitely would go on record, but showing it's a long term work-related issue might help form a better workman's comp case later when it gets worse? 😬

The issue is that there’s training about this Supposedly we’re given time during shifts to do wrist exercises to prevent this Likely so they don’t have to pay for these injuries from having us do manual labor better suited for robots than human beings

I don’t know about arthritis but it does make my wrists sore to be on bar all day.

Yes!!! All ages too! not just seasoned partners such as myself. I thought it remarkable that 20 year olds are suffering with sore back/arms/hands/fingers..I thought it was maybe "sympathy pains" I didnt know it was happening in other stores
I don't know the solution because it seems unfair that we are damaged or hurt by our jobs and expected to just quit our jobs.....like they are using us up then throwing us out...disposable employees

I have weak wrists from an injury sustained when I was an acrobatic gymnast when I was younger. My right wrist aches after a long day on bar. Not sure if it’s arthritis or a strain or carpal tunnel etc. but it’s real painful either way. I can solo bar so I tend to get put there very often and for full 8hr shifts. Just ordered a wrist brace to wear at home and overnight, praying it works lol

I was injured on the job, at starbucks last year. Not gonna give time or specific location other than upper back. They covered some PT but the injury is still causing me such daily pain that my doctor is looking into it possible being arthritis due to repetitive motion. So your not the only one. This job does a number on our bodies that nobody outside of the job really understands.
Like if you work a busy shift, how many gallons of milk on average are you lifting in and out of the fridges in one hour? How many brewing kegs are you lifting and dragging across the whole store every shift? How often do you reach over and pump syrup in an hour?
All of these are repetitive motions that are bodies are not used to. PT helped me wake up all the muscles in my upper back to help with the load but it can only do so much.
All I can say is don't work thru the pain. If you notice it getting worse, change what you can and see a doctor. Cause if I had done that, I wouldn't have gotten so badly hurt.

Yup me too. Get real bad pain and stiffness from my elbows to my wrists. But I also have a chronic disorder that puts me more at risk for arthritis so might not be completely starbucks related

It’s my hands for sure. Sometimes it’s actually painful
normaldud3 points2y ago
Really thought this was just me, only been two years for me and I get a shocking feeling and soreness in my hands when I open my hands all of the way.

I was just talking about this last night. It runs in my family too. RIP

A few weeks ago I almost called out because I woke up unable to bend my fingers after experiencing pain on bar the night before. We were short staffed so I ended up coming in early instead but had to ask to be taken off DT bar (my favorite position) for 3 days. Not sure what happened, but this job will wear a person down for sure.

I wear thumb/wrist brace on my right hand at work because I was developing quervain’s syndrome. It has helped tremendously.
gaymememac1 points2y ago
same boat here myself (19) and another partner (20) have both developed carpal tunnel from being on bat so often
sbell-txt1 points2y ago
Yes and it’s made my back issues so much worse
TJW3511 points2y ago
My left wrist hurts all the time now. I’m right handed and I don’t do a lot of typing at home or anything so the only thing I’ve narrowed it down to is repetitive movements while working at Starbucks

I get carpel tunnel in my right hand :( I want to help with drains and things like that but it hurts so bad
