Ex-baristas: where are you after leaving the bux? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by throwaway3456678
My store is going downhill fast and it’s honestly ruined the company for me. Things are drastically different from when I started in August and I don’t know how much more I can take of being overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated. I’ve been looking for jobs, I’m 19 and in college. I reallllly want to get out of fast food, even if it means working at somewhere like Target or Walmart. I feel like I’m being picky, but I’m not the kind of person to switch jobs often so I try to seek out places I know I’ll be working at long term.

Went from barista, to an office job. Doubled my hourly pay, only thing about being a barista that I miss is the health benefit and free spotify

Same, minus the double pay. I moved to an office at a car dealership, and I really enjoy having the ability to tell someone to get out of my face if they decide to be unreasonable. Even got health benefits and decent overtime pay.

I move into the office at a furniture store. It's customer service, but the difference of being off my feet alone is worth dealing with customers.

I left Starbucks for target (and they put me in the tarbucks :/) and then I left target to be a cake decorator at a local grocery store.
If you’re gonna go with Walmart/target I’d for sure pick target. I’ve worked at Walmart and it is not fun.

If I didn’t mention working at starbucks previously would that be the easiest way to avoid the tarbucks?
FragrantWin9 6 points 2y ago
Yeah I wouldn’t mention it if you don’t have to- But that might be kind of hard because they ask for your job history. You could say that you absolutely hated it and do not want to work inside the Starbucks ever. But they would still probably call you over there on occasion to help out if there was a call off

I’m thisclose to becoming a registered nurse, and I started a subreddit for unionizing starbucks. Way better off without them, priority #1 is school!

Went from the Bux to a landscaping job and it was the best decision ever. Not only do I make significantly more, I work with a small team of wonderful people, have a boss who's flexible and understanding, don't have to deal with a "corporate" and am actually working in a field related to my schooling. I'm also a student (studying agriculture) and found that manual labor jobs can be a great way to stay fit, are usually very flexible with school hours, and pay very well. Would recommend!

I got other job and it's triple pay and more benefits than Starbucks. But I didn't leave Starbucks. I just reduce hours like 15 hours a month.

I went from Barista to airline reservations, then back to SBUX bc 9/11 happened, the software company where I was lead for support, did client visits, wrote manuals (I did Sbux and tech support simultaneously until the shitty outsourcing company said I'd have 30 hours of mandatory over time and I walked out at lunch), then photo lab(customer support for the software I'd previously worked at, then outsourcing companycall center quality manager, then a different software company and now I work in insurance.
You can do whatever you want, you just have to take opportunities. If it doesn't work out or isn't right for you, more opportunities will come.
