Do y’all think I’ll be fired? (self.starbucksbaristas)

Howdy partners!

So, I’m planning a new tattoo and I really want it on the side of my neck..

I know that face and neck tattoos are not allowed as per the style guide/look book but… you know I don’t like living my life based on my job.

I love working at Starbucks so I don’t /want/ to be fired… but I want my tattoo where I want my tattoo you know!?

What are y’all’s thoughts? Should I just ask my manager? I feel like she is strict with dress codes, as with some of the supervisors.

Should I take vacation for two weeks while it’s healing and just cover it with makeup when I go back?! Help!

You’ll have to always cover it up. You’ll get dress coded, written up, and fired. If the tattoo is offensive in any way consider it over as well. A few partners at my store have tattoos behind the ears/back of the neck and they’re fine, but they’re also always covered by hair or very small so they’re not very noticeable.

If you do go through with it, do you want to have to cover it every single shift until you don’t work there? That’s a lot of time, makeup, and effort to put into a tattoo as well.

And finally of course, is getting a neck tattoo a good idea? What are your future career plans? Is this a smart choice financially and professionally? Would you be happy with the tattoo literally anywhere else? Maybe a chest piece or something that you could easily cover up instead of right out in the open.

All of my body art is covered fully at work and piercings are taken out/flipped away and even that’s a fucking hassle to remember every single day.

Just some things to consider and think about.

It’s not going to be an offensive tattoo at all! Honestly, I already have a chest piece to cover up, as I try to cover all my tattoos by wearing long sleeves and I typically wear a turtleneck for the aesthetic.

So, I guess, realistically it would only poke out the top of the collar!? Then during the summer months have it covered by makeup.. but still cumbersome, you’re absolutely right.. like do I want to be doing that each day? It is frustrating to constantly cover everything up! I also have to flip my septum🥲

Also- future goal is just to enjoy life, neck tattoo feels like good idea

I’m all for tattoos and mods, I just feel like it’s a lot of work for this job 😂 I also chose to go into a very conservative field later in life so I’m paying the price by having to cover all of my mods up!

Yeah you’re probably right tbqh! It will probably be more trouble than it’s worth right now and.. I don’t want to deal with the stress of having my SM literally hate me (if she didn’t fire me) 😂

One day tattoos and piercings won’t be so taboo in the professional world!!

It depends on your store and managers honestly, I know someone in my district is a ssv and they had a full neck tattoo!

That’s sweet that was allowed for them! Unfortunately after much consideration I’m pretty sure my manager will say something.. maybe she would have to fire me, maybe she wouldn’t and just understand that it’s “me” since I’m already pretty covered. Regardless, I’ve gone against the neck tattoo at this time 😭😭
