Venti rant about scheduling (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by imalreadyasleep
So we are pretty short staffed. I'm a SSV.
Today our coverage is scheduled where 2 people leave by 2:30 and from 2:30 to 5:30 it's just myself and another partner. (We are a busy cafe store). I arrive at 12:15. This means, technically, I need to take my lunch at 2 pm, only 2 hours in to my shift, which sucks. (Also, the partner I'm with until alone until 5:30 wasn't supposed to be there until 5:30-- she was supposed to be off at 4:45 but out SM forgot to schedule someone to be with me until our next partner gets in at 5:30...) This is the second shift I've been scheduled with week with only a 2 person play in the afternoon rush.
Should I share my scheduling frustrations with our SM? Or just go right to the DM? (Her and I have texted before.) I'm just frustrated. Our store is constantly being run in a bad way and I feel like the DM deserves to know how it's affecting us.

Update: she said we are too over in hours to schedule more people. We apparently have been running over the last few weeks. Even though we have like a 3 person play all morning and a 2 person play starting at like 3 until close at 7 most days days. Love that for us. 🙃 I understand that labor hours and allowance and stuff is important but it sucks when we can't have enough people to have it flow nicely 😬

I mean if you’ve never mentioned it before to your SM, yeah, talk to your SM first.

Also that’s shitty scheduling and I feel for you.

I would consider transferring honestly. You could also bring this up with your dm. If there’s only two people at the store for three hours your customer connections can’t be doing great.

i don’t know if this is only applicable in certain areas, but i know for our stores if there is only one partner and one ssv, the store must close. might be something to look into!

I’ve been snuggling with the same thing and sorry I’m just continuing with your rant lol. I’ve tried talking with my SM multiple times and she gave the same excuse of being over in labor (which makes no sense) and tells me it’s too complicated to explain. But It made me frustrated because when I tried to explain how it’s been affecting the baristas who have to deal with being short staffed every single day they work, they don’t take me seriously because the baristas that it really is affecting won’t speak up. Which I can understand not feeling comfortable saying you’re feeling over worked but if it’s just one or two SSVs standing up, the SM just brushes us off and tells us “the baristas are fine”.
