I know this is a bit of a weird question, but I was just wondering what the proper method was for calling out. I’m a green beans whos been here for a few months and has never had to call out. Today I rolled my ankle pretty bad, and I don’t know if I can stand for seven hours at work tomorrow. Even though it’s not sickness, will I still be responsible for coverage and do I just text or call my manager? I know this sounds really stupid but I honestly have no clue😂

First I'd text your manager and let them know what the situation is. More than likely, they'll help you find coverage, but if not, you can usually ask around. You could also ask your manager for a list of people who aren't working during your shift to see who can cover you.

During our first meeting, my manager specified to call, not text for call outs. In the months since then, we have always texted, but it has been them asking if I could fill in a shift ahead of time. I have never called out, but if I were to do that, I would call them

I did with the first person recommended, I just text them to let them know. But at this point, I think I’ll be okay to work

If you texted the store manager you should definitely call the store tomorrow and make sure the supervisor in charge is aware that youre calling out. Whenever you call out you should always call the store (I’ve always heard 4 hours before your shift)

Yep! I plan on calling tomorrow whether I can/can’t come in

Calling the store is proper procedure. I would attempt to find coverage and tell them who you asked so they don’t try the same people.

The best thing you can do when calling out is to do it as soon as possible. Just explain the situation and tell them that you can’t work. If you say “I can work if you need me to” chances are you’re going to work.
