Upside down huh? (i.redd.it)
submitted by sublime_loop
lachance99 92 points 2y ago
Yeah duh? You just hand them the drink upside down… newbies I swear🥲
lachance99 36 points 2y ago
Nah fr tho I get those a lot and I just make it normal because they’d literally no way to do that
damn_ass_rock_ 13 points 2y ago
just put the milk at the bottom?
nicathor 90 points 2y ago
The only thing i can think here is the almond milk tends to float above our iced drinks, rather than mixing in like regular milk, so maybe they want you to put the milk in the cup first and pour the shaken shots into that and maybe it would mix it better... but customers are also just crazy so i could be reaching haha
kitkatZT 29 points 2y ago
This is how I interpreted it when I got this once.
_but-y_ 18 points 2y ago
Ngl, I've ordered something like this before and that's what I interpreted (granted it's been like 10 years since I worked at Starbucks so wtf do I know?)

Edit: now I see shaken. I take this back. This is confusing AF.
tricializ1 16 points 2y ago
Since the shaken espressos only shake the syrups, espresso and ice, I would think they want the milk in the bottom of the cup and then add the shaken stuff. It’s how I make my (Doubleshot on ice) at home and it’s amazing.
ZzalFfz8cQgZoFXdqSNS 8 points 2y ago
Yeah tbh I don’t know why this is that big of a deal, I interpreted it the same way.
Curious-Bit-8324 1 points 2y ago
It mixes anyway when you are just walking around drinking it right? Is it just for looks at that point?
ebhanking 3 points 2y ago
If the coffee is stagnant anywhere though, the almond milk can separate and leave you with a layer of espresso and a layer of milk. I kinda get what they were going for, maybe?
Mellon_Lorde 50 points 2y ago
Joke’s on you, idiot. We’re currently out of everything you wanted in your drink anyway. Best I can do is a tall cup of ice with brown sugar syrup.
sublime_loop [OP] 14 points 2y ago
BAHAHAHAHAHAH honestly!!! it’s embarrassing to be out of basic things like straws and paper bags.
jennalahuee 2 points 2y ago
My store ran out of uber trays, 4 cup trays, small and large shopper bags... im in BC and the heatwave just crushed our inventory 🥲
Mellon_Lorde 1 points 2y ago
Oh no! We actually had a huge storm in NH that took out our power, so despite the fact that we got a shipment of food in, we had to toss all of it. 🙃

There’s just no winning.
jennalahuee 2 points 2y ago
Oh gosh, that sucks! Such a big waste..

I called my last few days shifts a "dumpster fire", and that definitely sounds like a dumpster fire.
blonde_blackeye 19 points 2y ago
I got two different shaken espressos- upside down mobile ordered today while on bar. Must be a new tik tok hack going around.
sunemoji 15 points 2y ago
All i can think of is maybe they want the milk shaken with in instead of topped off ?
CampLeo 1 points 2y ago
That's my guess too. I know I prefer mine like that. I used to make myself a doubleshot with no classic and a splash of VSC shaken it. It's pretty great.
January1171 4 points 2y ago
The last time I ordered I saw it as an option in the mobile app, and I was so confused.
8ultaoreune 11 points 2y ago
the mental math im trying to do rn to figure out how to do this is too much, my condolences
[deleted] 30 points 2y ago
Just put almond milk on the bottom. That’s as upside down as it gets
pittiepie 1 points 2y ago
Yep, this is exactly how I did it too when I saw it pop up the other day on mobile. Normally it's shaken espresso shots in the cup first with milk on top, so reverse it and you have milk in the cup first with the shaken espresso shots on top. I really gotta ask the next customer who orders it that way why they prefer it upside down, cause I'm really curious lmao

Shake everything but the espresso and then top it with the shots
8ultaoreune 6 points 2y ago
oh geez that seems so obvious now, my thought process was way more complicated than that lol. we have customers that get drinks shaken with ice and then get the drink poured into the cup without the ice—and some will get fresh ice instead. thats where my head went lmao.

i forget its not illegal to shake milk in the shaker for espresso drinks cause it always feels like a crime.
sublime_loop [OP] 5 points 2y ago
but then that wouldn’t be a shaken espresso…it would be sort of like a latte. :/ idk i’m convinced that most people don’t know what they’re ordering.
not-your-avg-duck 2 points 2y ago
I’m saying that’s what I would do, and if the customer came back I would explain what upside down means and ask them what they meant by it and try to correct how they order.
ap27undead 6 points 2y ago
Starbucks customers don’t actually know what they want 50% of the time and just say random shit
knifepit 3 points 2y ago
In a grande cup huh?
goomy-toons 1 points 2y ago
Yesterday a mobile came through for a Venti iced americano, 1/3 decaf, with room, In a grande cup, VSCCF
comfycheesecake 3 points 2y ago
So my store has been getting these too, like at least a few a day. We've just been making them as normal cuz that's what my sm has told us to do cuz she has no clue what these people want either. Well the other day I finally caved and asked a woman who ordered one just what she was expecting when she ordered the shaken espresso upside-down; I explained what the drink was and how it was made, and she had no clue it was made like that! She thought the standard shaken espresso she was getting only looked the way it did because she ordered it upside-down. We both thought it was kinda funny tbh and now she just orders it normally lmao.

TL; DR: customers don't know what they're ordering either.
Tha_jphil 2 points 2y ago
So idk if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there’s an Italian drink called the cafe freddo, that’s shaken espresso with just simple syrup and the Zurich take on it is milk at the bottom with the freedo on top! Although I do think this is a case of “pReSs bUtTonS” but they unknowingly made a traditional Zurich cafe freddo! 😅
ugh_yeahmetoo 2 points 2y ago
Got one of these mobiles before so I literally shook milk with the ice and topped it with the espresso 😌 order outside of the standard and you get a barista’s interpretation 😌😌😌

bigger question is why someone paid $10(ish) to have this bland bev and one other thing delivered…. best just to order a mess of pastries to make it worth while. also: y’all have hazelnut?!?!

I had an upside down latte come through yesterday, like what??
snartblartmcgee 8 points 2y ago
also, why did they put "in a grande cup" if it is a grande?
not-your-avg-duck 5 points 2y ago
Because people be dumb
ladyelenawf 1 points 2y ago
I admit I am people.

I've played with the settings on drinks. I didn't realize until I was talking to a barista about it that is redundant. Especially because it occasionally offers larger cup sizes. I was confused, but they explained that some people want room for stuff and others hope for a free upgrade.

I just thought it was the app accounting for people not understanding size. I feel it should do it for hot/cold too. 🤷‍♀️ If only to save the Karens from themselves.

“in a grande cup” customers just be pressing buttons for no reason at this point
pbandkiki 1 points 2y ago
Honestly I get it. The milk at the top bugs me too so I put it at the bottom before pouring in the shaker 🤷‍♀️
NobelSquirrel6820 1 points 2y ago
I used to always order my double shots like this. I hate when the almond milk just sits on top of the drink and won’t mix- putting the milk in first ensures it all mixes properly! But yeah, I’d always order it in person so I could explain what I want
mt__everest 1 points 2y ago
Or like you know, stirred. 🤷‍♀️
Curious-Bit-8324 1 points 2y ago
Please unshake my shaken espresso? Uhmmm what?
chakrasandwich 1 points 2y ago
it's been a while since I worked at the bux, did they re-name the starbucks double shot? I ordered one the other day and no one knew what I was talking about or how to make it :(.
sublime_loop [OP] 1 points 2y ago
yes they renamed it. the recipe is the same except the venti gets one less shot.
