Cut hours because not able to lift.(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Month_Puzzleheaded
As the title says it, my SM told me that they would cut my hours if I’m not able to lift anything until I’m possible able to. I had surgery on my left hand about a month and half ago and just came back, since then I have seen how my hours are getting cut when I confronted my SM he told me that. I told him that it wasn’t fair because there are other things I can do that don’t need for me to be lifting but didn’t said anything and just end the conversation. What can I do?

Have you tried convincing them on doing DTO? I feel that doesn’t require much lifting just moving drinks to whoever is on window. May I ask, do you regularly work night shifts or morning shifts.

I’m either at the register, food or dto. I have an open availability.

They honest should just put you at nights at drive thru.

myself & another partner are having a similar problem... her with carpal tunnel & me with nerve issues in my arm. neither of us can really be on bar. from my understanding, it’s up to starbucks to make decisions about what these partners can do in terms of working or taking things easy
i know that for my barista she’s out entirely until she can have surgery because she has to be able to do everything within her job description. I on the other hand am okay because I can still do all my shift tasks & play call, & even tho i can go on bar, i don’t put myself their bc it’s super uncomfortable so i’m okay to continue working until my issues are sorted out. I know that all of this information though came from conversations my SM had with my DM

Before the surgery he knew I was having issues with my hand and he was understanding. I was able to do most prep stuff including toddies but after I came back from the surgery he started with this. So idk why he is doing it.

Your SM does not need to accommodate you just because you asked. You need to request the accommodation officially by calling in to the Sbux 411 number. You will probably need a note from a doctor though, saying what your limitation is and for how long.

The doctor did give me a notice about it and I did sent it to Sedgwick and sbux 411. So it’s not just me asking about not lifting but about not having my hours cut because of that reason.
