Drive thru? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by cherrythot
Is anyone else’s district getting super weird with new random rules? We’re no longer allowed to say “welcome to Starbucks” in our drive thru. We’re supposed to just say “what can we get for you” because the first instance “takes way too long”. We now have to crank out ordering times too, as if I have any control over how long it takes someone to order.

my district is the complete opposite, we have to say our name and ask for the customers name when theyre ordering and we werent supposed to tell them the price total at the speaker box. its weird, theyre very strict on both window times and customer connections, its hard to talk to customers when youre supposed to keep the entire interaction/ transaction at 30 seconds or less.

We’re not supposed to give them a total either.

weird we have to say “thank you for choosing ____ starbucks, my name is ____ what can we get started for you today?!”

We were told that it takes to long and it makes the customers feel like we think they’re dumb because “they know where they are”

The number of customers that ask for a diet coke tells me that corporate is, once again, incorrect

Dude we’re directly next to a restaurant and have had people come in before and be like “do I need to be seated or can I seat myself?” Like brooo you couldn’t tell this is a Starbucks?

for real, i live in michigan with a biggby coffee across the street and the amount of people we get who think they’re at biggby, asking for teddy bear lattes, etc, would make corporate think twice 😂

I’m not a partner anymore but my last store was next to a bakery. The amount of people that came in asking for the lunch half special was too damn high.

We have customers about once a day who think they're at Chipotle because we share a building with them. Sometimes we hear their passengers razzing them and laughing

Same here!! One of the stores I’ve worked at is next to a Moe’s, and occasionally we get people coming in not realizing they went to the wrong store. Luckily, most of them realize pretty quickly, so there’s no further issues.

We aren’t allowed to say “no problem” on drive thru anymore god knows why
bananawallet 2 points 2y ago
Because it “implies that there is/was/could have been a problem” with whatever they were asking for 🙄
sparkeRED 2 points 2y ago
If any of y’all are required to say a certain thing on drive, red flag, switch stores

lol same, my manager explained it to us like, the customers know they’re at a starbucks anyway so they’d rather we cut down on ordering time or make the experience feel more “unique” for the customer lmao. we also aren’t supposed to ask if they want a receipt, straw, sleeve (for non-extra hot/hot water based drinks), stopper, etc. unless they ask bc again it allows more time for connections and/or shorter times, and apparently we’re trying to “train” the customers to ask us if they want anything lmao

My old ASM coached me for asking people if they wanted straws with their drink. Not because of time but because it was a “local health code” to ask someone if they want a straw with a strawless lid and they could get in trouble.
stealingsight 2 points 2y ago
in retrospect we had it good... we could say whatever we wanted as long as it got the point across: good morning, how are you, hi what can i get you today, hows it going
TherudestLiz 1 points 2y ago
We have no rules that I’m aware of. Just get names at the end. Try to ask for food order first, and ask if they want an extra shot of espresso lol. It’s not even that serious. If I asked for someone’s name first, I would forget it by the end of their order lol.
