Transferring as a green bean (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by MiyaDoesThings
I’ve been here for over a month now, and I’m moving cross-country at the end of August for school. When I applied, I didn’t tell the SM I was moving, since in the past when applying to summer jobs I’ve had most places tell me “no” because I’d be leaving in a few months. Yeah, I get not telling them is kind of shitty, but I did drop hints in the interview with saying that I wanted to go to grad school and I liked that Starbucks has so many different locations, plus I’m broke and need money to live lol.

Anyway, how do I go about requesting a transfer? Am I even able to do that or would I just have to quit and re-apply? I’m hesitant to go ahead and request a transfer, especially since I’m still going to be at this location for at least a month and a half and really don’t want any bad blood.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t think you could transfer until 6 months, how long have you been there?

A month.

I saw something that said if it’s due to being physically unable to continue working at the location you’re at, you can transfer, but I’ve seen so much conflicting info on both this sub and the main Starbucks one.

I transferred after only a month. Got the job in my hometown during Christmas break, started mid December and left mid January to go back to school. I did mention this during my interview, and my manager hired me knowing i would be leaving soon, but regardless they should still allow you to transfer. Definitely mention it sooner than later though, since the managers usually take a solid few weeks to get the paperwork done.

I told my manager at my interview, granted my school is only 45 min away from my home. It hasn’t been a huge deal at all and I even plan on coming back on breaks

My advice is to bring it up in a way you didn't know you were going to move. "Hey I do apologize, I know I just started here but I have to move suddenly, is it ok if I transfer somewhere closer to where I'll be living"

Yeah, that’s what I plan on doing. I’m sad about having to leave this store, though, because I love my co-workers!

It's always sad leaving (sometimes) home stores. I wish you all the best with both grad school and your new store when you find one!
