TW: self harm (delete post if not allowed)

Hi, just a self concious partner that has lots of.. scars, we'll call them- on my arms and im going to work a shift my new store for the first time tomorrow... i need a really quick fix to hide these on my arms or i'm gonna get looks... and possibly more and idk what to do. I don't have any long sleeve shirts that are in dress code...

What's the worst that could happen if someone sees fresh wounds on my arms?

Supervisors and store managers-- what do you do if you see a partner with these visible injuries?

I'm really worried about this.

Edit/Update: I went into work with solid brown arm warmers on- no one questioned it and i felt a huge sigh of relief. Thank the coffee gods 🥺

first of all, as someone who has bad self harm scars all up and down my left arm and was incredibly scared about wearing a short sleeve shirt, your coworkers nor managers/supervisors can do anything discriminatory. it counts as a disability so any rude comments, being treated differently, etc… can be reported.

despite this i know how scary it can be to show scars/fresh wounds and wearing an arm warmer (as long as it’s within the color patterns allowed) would be perfectly okay (just think about it the same way as someone wearing a wrist brace or a cast). if your SM or SSV doesn’t allow especially if you tell them why, i would report them to the ethics and compliance hotline. it’s literally just a long sleeve disconnected from your shirt.

as someone who’s also struggled so much with mental health and self harm, i really hope that everything goes okay <3 take care of yourself <33

also, i searched this sub and found $1 post with a SSV saying it should be okay :))

I would just go get a cheap long sleeve and toss it on to be safe. That way you’re not worried about anyone seeing them, they won’t be exposed to any further injury, and no one will ask you about them and possibly make you feel bad.

Walmart usually has plain long sleeves for under $5, usually you can find them in either the men’s/women’s sections so whatever shape or size you need should be covered!

I personally sometimes wear a compression sleeve to work anyways because I get really bad tennis elbow, but also I'm case I do have to cover up for another reason. If they ask me I just say something like "My is hurting more than usual today" which is the truth

Also, can I just say I too am a blue haired barista, so lovely to make your acquaintance

I’m glad things went well for you OP. It’s tangentially related but I have to cover my naked pin up girl tattoo on my forearm with sports bandage everyday and that was with express permission from my GM and DM

Long sleeves, or for the heat, there are sleeves on Amazon you can buy that are made of t-shirt material. You don't have to explain yourself to anyone but your manager if it is a big deal.

I'll also be honest, I have visible scars, sometimes even open wounds and people really do not notice as much as we think they do. I've had to pull up sleeves during peak and no one cares or notices.
