:skips straight to the bottom: :scrolls up to check how long you've worked:

Long story short, my guess is no. After 3 months you aren't valuable enough to keep with 1 day of availability. I've seen it done, but these were 3-year partners who had an amazing track record and were transitioning into permanent careers elsewhere but needed the support to do so.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 11 points 2y ago
Some partners at my store don’t even get scheduled for the whole week. And a lot only get 1 day. Pretty sure I’m gonna land my interview so they’re gonna have to work with it.
ThinkPan 15 points 2y ago
so how exactly does that work? We're in a labor shortage but nobody can get hours at your location?

is this a city thing? If I couldn't get at least 30 hours, I couldn't justify keeping the position.

I can't imagine why someone would want to have a store full of people who only work 1 day a week over fewer employees that actually get enough hours to learn their jobs. The turnover rate must be 99.99% over a year.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 4 points 2y ago
Yep. Not sure why it is. Some partners get 20-30 hours a week (probably cause they asked for it). While some get 4-13 hours a week. Some don’t even work every week. Our store is remodeling turning into a drive through next year so we’re gonna have a bigger store so maybe that’s why. I was really confused when I got hired only getting 6 hours a week seeing my manager hiring 4 new people + 2 new transfers
Ashamed_Equal 1 points 2y ago
With my classes, I sometimes need to work only 1 or 2 days a week, and I keep the job around so that when my availability opens up, I have job security … that’s my justification for it. Plus, free spotify is nice if you’re a broke college student

My manager told people that I wanted a lot of hours, that I wanted 40 hours a week. When in reality I only asked for 20 hours and was taking up shifts because I was only getting 6 hours a week😂

>Pretty sure I’m gonna land my interview so they’re gonna have to work with it.

Or they'll just seperate you. It's not that hard to do.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 2 points 2y ago
Idk I’ve actually heard it’s pretty hard to do. Which is why they barely schedule partners they aren’t too fond of. Because they can’t fire them necessarily. If it goes bad, they’ll probably just ask me to pick between the two
yyz_barista 3 points 2y ago
If you show up for all your shifts and are overall just "bad" at your job, it's hard to separate Partners (basically it's subjective).

When it comes to theft or time & attendance issues, Starbucks can have you gone pretty quickly. In the case of being a fairly new partner and having a significant availability change, I'd watch your attitude towards the company. It's quite likely they'll sit you down, ask you to expand your availability or resign, and if you don't want to do either, they'll move to separate you.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 2 points 2y ago
The only reason I didn’t wanna leave is bc all the time they spent training me. 40 hours of training
maidofpuns 4 points 2y ago
You don't owe any employer that loyalty, especially if they aren't working toward keeping the agreement you created together when you accepted the position. If the agreement between you and your employer changes to a point where it's no longer working for either party, that party has the right to terminate the relationship. You might love the job, and you might love your fellow partners. But if the people responsible for getting you hours and writing your paychecks aren't doing their jobs to your satisfaction, you don't have to stay. At the end of the day, Starbucks is just another job and to them, you're just another employee.
drew-b 3 points 2y ago
Yeah, just lay it down and worst case you leave. A store that's run like that ain't worth the inconvenience
StormTheParade 19 points 2y ago
It looks like this manager is keeping your hours low to force you away. It's a barely-legal tactic used by management in much of retail. They are probably not satisfied with your performance but can't outright fire you.

Go for the better job and ditch Starbucks, 100%
trbpanda 9 points 2y ago
you're better off just asking your manager about it. each store has a different situation going on but if your manager will let you then i'm sure it'd be fine. although starbucks really isn't worth the stress if your coworkers are shitty
real-3st 6 points 2y ago
3 months is just the end of your 90 day grace period, it's understandable on why they wouldn't schedule you too many hours but 1 day a week is actually really low. ask for a transfer to another store with short staff if it'll help it sounds like the manager is picking favorites with your hours, but it could be that you aren't compatible and they can see it

Since there’s a learning curve with working at Starbucks typically green beans aren’t placed on bar. I’m a ssv and I put the partners I know will be good on bar when it’s busy and when it’s slow I’ll let people get practice in. Customer connections and drive thru times are a big part of this job so you have to understand that if the drinks take too long and aren’t made properly it looks bad to the dm.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 1 points 2y ago
Yes of course! I work at a cafe store. I just need more bar time to I can learn to be able to bar efficiently & get more practice and I feel like I’m not getting any
Traditional-Bad3933 2 points 2y ago
Oh I had no idea you were at a cafe only store. That’s crazy that you don’t have any bar time. I’m at a drive thru store so I have times to worry about but a cafe store should be more chill. When I first started I got no bar time and was only drive thru for the first 6 months. I ended up transferring and got a sm who was shocked I couldn’t do bar and she retrained me. I though about quitting before I transferred but now I love. I’m sorry you don’t have a good sm or ssv.
Ashamed_Equal 3 points 2y ago
So I’ve been told that there is a company standard of every barista being available for a minimum of 12 hours per week… with that being said, if you work at a store in a college town, the manager is usually more lenient. My lowest availability was 4 hours every other week, and the manager was okay with it.

A manager can reject your availability if it doesn’t work for the store, but I feel like they have to give you other alternatives (like stores you could transfer to)
thechamelioncircuit 3 points 2y ago
There’s no way that not putting someone on the schedule is correct
Hefty_Squirrel1345 2 points 2y ago
It’s correct trust me. I’ve seen my coworker who only works weekends not get scheduled for a week cause her availability is only those 2 days.
Elliotisnotokay 2 points 2y ago
I've never seen availability request be denied. I say go for it. The worst they can do is say no
Hefty_Squirrel1345 1 points 2y ago
You think they’ll accept Sat- Wednesday 9am-4pm availability?
the1noir 1 points 2y ago
You seem like a unpleasant employee, if your partners don’t like you and your SM don’t like you, I think you should take the hint and leave. Best of luck with whatever you end up doing.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 1 points 2y ago
My bad if I seem like a brat but this was basically just a rant about the job💀
Hefty_Squirrel1345 1 points 2y ago
& I’m not gonna leave, I’m changing my availability but thanks anyway!💜
Hefty_Squirrel1345 1 points 2y ago
Idk if my SM likes me or not just based on the # of hours I’m getting, it’s just a guess. One of my shifts is just nasty to me. I’m not unpleasant or anything they just think I’m too shy
smilygirrl12 1 points 2y ago
I've definitely seen store managers deny availability before. Sometimes you have to figure out what works best for both you and them. I would say if you want to continue with the company try to transfer, as it sounds like you aren't happy with this store. Otherwise you could just find a new job like it sounds like you're doing. As for the not getting put on bar, it could be because you're so new, it's quite common to put the newer partners on easier positions in the beginning. Have you asked to be put on bar when it's slower? As a supervisor, I don't know when someone wants to try something unless they tell me. If a newer partner asks to try bar, I will do my best to get them some time on bar and support them as much as I can.
Hefty_Squirrel1345 1 points 2y ago
It’s not about trying something new. It’s that they keep the same people & never rotate positions
smilygirrl12 1 points 2y ago
Maybe talk to someone to see if you can switch positions? Otherwise you could talk to the district manager and tell them what's going on. They can help you transfer to a different store as well. Everything can be different at a different store so it might be worthwhile to try to transfer.
