Dumb question, help with informing SM about having a barista from another store cover my shift(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by kikuuq
Ive never actually done this myself, nor has anyone explained it to me, but what is the process of getting this finalized? I have everything lined up and im sure i have to tell my SM but how exactly do i do that?
Thanks for your time guys i really appreciate it 💜

tell the SM what shift, what store the barista is from, and the phone number for the barista. That's it!

I’m a ssv and have never heard of a barista from another store covering a shift unless it was due to COVID or an dire circumstance. Usually if one of my baristas needs a shift and another barista can’t cover it it’s a ssv or a sm that covers it. It’s less about informing your sm and more about asking for permission.

Thats wild! Its actually super common in our district o: and I've done it before at my old store but it wasnt 100% run properly :/
I did talk to my sm, and she just told me she needs the other barista's partner numbers and phone number!

typically you need to ask your SM for approval for any shift coverage, especially from a different store (for a few reasons: tenure of partner (are they brand new? have they ever worked at a store like yours? like DT or cafe or whatever. ) your SM will need: that partner’s home store #, their full name, and then also- their home store SM will have to “share” said borrowed partner to your location to ensure they can clock in and out and GET PAID.
that sounds like a lot, but it’s what’s necessary given the current system to ensure everyone gets paid for the time they worked.

Thank you so much for the advice!! I went ahead and talked to my SM in person just bc I wasnt sure how to phrase it over text and I just need to provide the info ^^
Thankfully, the barista covering my shift is an old coworker from my previous store, and has also covered shifts at my new store in the past
