I understand you. Ive been with Starbs since the first day my store reopened from covid. I worked hard to learn every position on the floor and have gotten many compliments about how quickly I learned everything. At my store recognition was lacking so now all the SSVs, every shift, tell every barista, "you did great today!" And now it's at a point that it feels meaningless.

The area I'd like to be noticed more in is my cleaning. I feel like the only barista in my store that doesn't just wipe down the counters. I'll move things to clean under, I clean crevices and small corners. Anytime I find an area that I personally dont clean regularly its filthy. If given the chance, I would LOVE to stay a whole day in my store closed just to clean everything.

So I sympathize with you my friend. Best I can say is keep up the good work and the good fight!

231 here, and first of all, good on you for rocking it! Not everyone takes pride in their work, and in my experience most people just phone it in. You sound like the kind of partner I love seeing on my shift. Wanting to be recognized for your achievements is definitely not immature.

That said, one thing I've struggled with as a shift lead is recognition of my partners. It's easy for me to see someone struggling and let them know that they're awesome, but I've noticed that it's much harder for me to give recognition to peeps who are handling their shit. I've strived to do better, because you're absolutely right, you disserve accolades just as much (or pretty obviously more) as the people who are struggling or just starting.

Next time you get a check-in with a shift or a manager (they're supposed to happen every shift, but I find they don't), if they're good peeps, let them know you feel frustrated. Don't say "I never get recognition", but try to imply you'd like a shout out. Maybe something like "I feel like I might be doing something wrong, or I'm not fitting in here, but I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it." If it were me that'd be a wake up call I could totally respect.

Hope this helps, and if nothing else never let other people's shoddy communication lessen your own worth. You are worthy, dawg!

I don’t want to seem negative but usually that’s how it goes with having a job. Your boss will say nothing about the million things you do right but will tell you about the one thing you did wrong. Self gratification is the best thing you can learn. Since I’ve been at Starbucks it’s usually the more outgoing and social people that get recognized over the ones who just do their job.

It’s not others’ job to recognize your work. That is for your management team from shift on up.
