You’re going from a piece of crap to a moody piece of crap. The old machines need manual adjusting and need to be rinsed often. Also it will not tell you if the shot is “star” quality it just gives you a pull time and it must be in the approved time window.

I think the best advice I can give you is to ask one of your shifts or store manager for some help and let them know that you've never used this version of the machine before, they're there to help!

I haven't used ver 1 in a long time and despite it being the machine I was trained on when I first joined I would still have a hard time readjusting to it. It's complicated but with some help from your managers it won't be as bad, it'll just take time :)

I was also trained on the older version but my store got the newer ones a while ago. I was working on bar at a different store today and they had the Mastrena 1 there. Readjusting to it wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be but, it was annoying having to rinse it so often.

It's not that hard. We have the 1. Take a moment to study the machine. Everything you need is there on it.
Buttons go as follows.
Right hand side(usually has espresso roast on the big hopper) : 1 shot, 2 shots, 3 shots, 4 shots.
Left hand side (decaf or blonde/whatever your store has on promotion) 1 shot, 2 shot, half decaf, 2decaf 2caf.
Other buttons : rinse, stop, clear, continue. When it's time to rinse the screen let's you know . When the drawer is full the screen let's you know. Grinder adjustment is located at the top front of the machine (left and right side for both hoppers). Push down and turn accordingly. I think it's clockwise for fine and anticlockwise for coarse (it's also written on the machine). Steamer: pull all the way for automatic and half way for manual, it'll stop by its self when in auto. Also everything is displayed on the screen, temperature, number of shots, what's in the queue etch. Don't you worry. Its pretty straightforward. You'll be absolutely fine! Oh, and of course ask for help from the shifts and/or the manager.

it’s not hard at all. you need a run down on how to adjust temps for steaming, how to implement blonde/ristretto/decaf/etc, and where the grounds drawer is. easy peasy!
