My first time training a green bean...(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hobo_treasures
To be honest I don't really know what to say. I started training a new person without receiving any training myself. I just wanted to ask: is this normal? Does Starbs just expect me to know everything I need to go over? Luckily first day was CS training and I'm really good at that. But today we're moving to coffee academy and I literally have no clue what to do. Also, I couldn't get this poor girl's password reset. Every time I tried it said the password was missing something but it wasn't. SM and ASM are nowhere to be found, so I just said screw it and we skipped her online training for now since I can't even get her logged in. This is extremely frustrating. I talked with my fiance and she feels like I've been set up for failure. I just want to do my job and prepare this green bean for her job (she's going to a different store), but I feel like I don't even know what I'm doing. One last time, is this just how it is? Am I overreacting? Thanks for taking the time to read this. I wish you all good days and many iced chai tea lattes.

I know how you feel! Have the trainee call the number on the password reset app it’s the easiest solution, even with the paper instructions to switch the password, it still doesn’t work. It’s happened to my last 3 trainees. I would say to emphasize multitasking and the fact that they will continue to learn things as they progress through training and in the weeks after training. If they get overwhelmed send them to do more computer training. Get them strongest on CS and register and warming first and then set them up with bar stuff because at least then they can be okay by themselves at warming or register when rush comes!

Also, idk if this would be helpful at all but I recently made a google doc with information for bar and CS to give to my trainees, just in case they wanted to review it at home or sometime if you’d like it! & also yes I completely agree the SB trainer program is like nothing it explains legit almost nothing 🥴

I've trained two now. Going over the iPad is a good starter. You work with what you're given and fill in the blanks. For coffee academy, I show them how to work the machine, and the ends and outs of it. I have them practice milk steaming first then make all sorts of hot beverages (lattes, flat white, cap, macchiato etc etc) and then switch to doing ice versions.
