Being a barista at 27. (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ManifestByTheSea
I have an interview tomorrow for a barista position. I’m 27 and for some reason I feel weird or like I am too old to work there. Anyone else around my age or older who works at sbux and what is your experience like?

I hired in right before my 31st birthday. I'm there for ASU and health insurance so I don't let my age bug me.

ETA: I'm "Mom" to my coworkers but it's fun to see life through their eyes. They remind me of how I used to be when I was their age. lol

I got hired as a barista at 25. I’m a supervisor at 30. It’s not such a big deal, although I am the oldest person at my store. The store down the street from my house has someone that’s in their 60’s. There are a lot of young people working here for sure, but they’re all hard workers. You’ll be fine.

I have multiple supervisors in their late 30s and early 40s and I have a barista in their late 50s

I got hired 2.5 months ago. I am 32 lol.

You're gonna be fine.

I'm 38 and a barista! This is actually my second time with the company, for a total of 7 years. This time around my kids are teens so I decided to go back to school, so I'm using the ASU Benefits. The average age at my store is 28!

I was hired at 27. Plenty of people that age and older work at Starbucks and several of my coworkers are older than me, some by quite a bit. I feel I fit in well at my store even though I’m a little older than average. It’s not weird at all!

I'm 26, got hired when I was 25. There's all kinds of ages working for the bux, you'll be fine!

I'm 30 and a shift. There are some older people than me that work at my store as well. A job is a job, don't worry about your age. I get along really well with pretty much everyone and my fellow closers often forget I'm older than they are lol

cold brew does smell of feet, i frickin agree

I'm 26 and just started a couple months ago! It's not so bad, though your shifts are likely gonna be younger than you.

You're never too old. I started when my kids were in grammer school for some extra money. Thought I would quit and go back to grad school when they graduated but life happens. Mom passed, Dad needs me so I'm still here. I'm the oldest in my store though thankfully, I don't look it and certainly don't act it 🤣As someone else mentioned its all about attitude and work ethic. Good luck.

I started at Starbucks right before I turned 36 lol. I’m a ‘mom’ to most everyone, but I don’t mind it at all lol. Only occasionally do I feel ‘too old’ to work there lol.

My entire team skews older. I have two baristas in their 60's, all but 1 of my shifts is in their 30's and I have at least 3-4 baristas in their 30's as well. You got this!

i’m 17 and some of my favorite coworkers are mid twenties! age really doesn’t matter, it’s about personality and work ethic <3

A lot of my coworkers are around that age. Someone that age doesn't even stand out to me at all.

I’m almost 50; you’ll be fine.

I currently work in a store that has at least five different women who are 50+, and I've worked with several other "middle-aged" partners in the past. Most of the rest are in their 30s. I myself am 27 as well. It's normal.

I’m back at 32 and I’m definitely feeling weird working with a ton of teenagers. But I will say it’s fun giving them my 144**** partner number and telling them I started in 2007!

I’m 19 and my favorite coworkers are all within 23-45 years old. You’ll be fine :]

im 27 and a barista and my boss is 26 and my supervisors are 18-26. it's a shitty feeling but since i see the job as a transition period of my life...well, it is what it is.

i think its natural to feel weird or out of place about it, but people are pretty open to you if you are to them, i find
