So I work at a WPS Starbucks location on a college campus. When the fall semester starts up again my boss said that we're gonna start putting our hot coffee urns as well as all of our creamer out on the front counter so people can self serve they said that it's "standard Starbucks procedure" and that "all Starbucks have them like that"... I don't remember ever seeing a Starbucks with self serve coffee, creamer and sugar maybe but the whole coffee urn?
Am I crazy or do other locations actually have the coffee out on the front counter?

No way. He must be thinking of Panera. And even there I don't think it's the actual brewer out there, it's an insulated dispenser. I have seen self dispensed coffee in many places, hotels included, but never in a Starbucks.

Yup. Or at least at the one I worked at. We took the self serve urns to the back Bunn and would brew it every whatever interval it was, like 30-45min or something. Wasn't my job though, just periodically had the person come to my station area to do it.

Creamer and sugar yes, coffee urns I don't believe so

I manage a WPS and we have ours to self serve (except during COVID). The WPS model allows for a lot more leeway in practices. The brewed coffee ‘shelf life’ is even different from a traditional store.
So while you shouldn’t have been told all Starbucks do it, there is no reason a WPS couldn’t do it if that’s what they wanted to do.

It’s a thing on college campuses I suppose. Mine has it.

Yeah it’s a college thing. The licensed Starbucks at my university did the same thing but never seen it at any other store.

The Caribou on my college campus did, but never a Starbucks that I’ve seen.
