I’ve been with Starbucks for almost 2 years, and I feel the same way sometimes. It’s completely normal to feel that way, people learn at varying rates, and I’m sure you’ll soon feel like a true part of the team!

Hi I’m a SSV and I just want to say that you are doing great! As long as you try your best never be too hard on yourself. Customers and management are hard enough on baristas. Plus it took me 3 months to pick up mostly everything. Hang in there green bean!

Trust me it takes a while to find the rhythm and all to feel like you got things down. I had the problem of being put in the same position often and didn't have the opportunity to practice in other positions so I felt like I was too slow and confused for my shifts to consider me to try something else. After a year I still question myself sometimes especially because my recent diabetes diagnosis has brought some complications.
You totally got this!

Oh yeah, it's pretty rough in the beginning. I try and let all my beans know that even after training, there's going to be a lot they don't know. Never be afraid to ask questions, and dare I say make some flash cards about some of the drink builds to help you! Please ask questions, and just do your best!

You’re experiencing Imposter Syndrome. It happens to a lot of people actually, myself included. It’s even frightening when other SSVs and my store manager have said that I’m not performing at my best. If you are giving an honest effort to better yourself, there is no reason to beat yourself up. You’re only doing your best.

At around 6 months it really becomes second nature. I’m coming back after two years and I’m still like “ahhhhh what am I doing?!” at least once a shift.
