Do y'all get mad when I order small, medium, and large? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by scbacker404
I don't go to Starbucks often and I always get confused by the sizes so I stick with standard American sizes (s,m,l). The barista always seems to know what I want - do they likely hate me?
Crowchick1731 121 points 2y ago
Not at all, tho some, like myself, will likely read back your Starbucks order in our lingo- tall, grande, venti, respectively. Its just habit for me.
Ashleybux 90 points 2y ago
I’d prefer s/m/l over any confusion and having to remake. Don’t say give me a regular though. Regular=never a real size. Your regular and my regular are totally different.
neonphoenixslayer 30 points 2y ago
True but when they say regular I just ring a grande in
Silly_Goose2 8 points 2y ago
I mean it absolutely is the regular. If you never press a size button, the computer gives them a Grande which seems to meet the definition of default or regular in my mind.
itsdaytime 53 points 2y ago
Not at all! The only time I get annoyed is when someone does a whole monologue at the register about not understanding Starbucks sizing, like ok, good for you, thank you for wasting all of our time pls just order something

Exactly what I was going to say!! This is the most confusion I get around me and it's insane.

No way. I'd rather that than someone disappear into a blank stare. I wonder sometimes if the burden of that decision causes their circuitry to short out.
Brgnbo 14 points 2y ago
It’s only annoying when someone orders a regular size and then proceeds to complain or make fun of tall, grande, or venti like we get it lol we didn’t make the sizes
[deleted] 10 points 2y ago
It’s fine but one time I had a lady ask for a large so I gave her a venti and she got angry because she wanted a trenta. So if you want a trenta or a short please say trenta/short because large means venti and small means tall
OneRoseDark 9 points 2y ago
if someone asks for a large I'll often grab both sizes and be like "okay do you want a LARGE or a RIDICULOUS LARGE?" and that usually gets a laugh.
spookbish69 5 points 2y ago
Lmao I usually say large or LARGE large
[deleted] 8 points 2y ago
Nah honestly I wish that s m and l were our standard sizes so there could be less confusion about it. Just don't try to use our actual sizing if you don't know what it means. I had a guy order a tall and then get mad to see that it was a small and not a large. If you really want to know the sizing here it is:

Short (hot drinks only)
Tall (small)
Grande (medium)
Venti (large)
Trenta (only for cold brew, iced coffee, refreshers, lemonade, and tea)
Cheesy_Wotsit 2 points 2y ago
My god, it would make my life so much easier if the UK did trenta.
IrrxentSB 2 points 2y ago
What makes you say that😂
Cheesy_Wotsit 1 points 2y ago
I drink a stupid amount of coffee ... 8 shots min in a Venti and dilute it 50/50 when I get into work l. A trenta would just make it easier- and more coffee! 😍
Kind_Fox_951 6 points 2y ago
Not at all, it’s actually easier.
Just don’t be the Karen that’s like, “ Umm… this is the tall? I didn’t know it was this small… I want that size over there”.
TyrannicalKitty 5 points 2y ago
Honestly I hate our lingo with a fiery passion. When customers ask me the sizes I say it in standard because if you don't know our sizes in the first place saying: "tall, grande, Venti" means nothing to you. And then going. "talls are small, grandes are medium-" just too much.
PandaVike 4 points 2y ago
I really don't care, I know it's hard to remember what company calls their sizes.

The only time I'm annoyed is when I call out a drink and someone argues with me that I called it out , let's say Grande, and they yell "I ordered a medium!" while telling me our lingo is stupid. Please just take the drink and leave.
the_coffeegirl 4 points 2y ago
Never ever when I was a barista did this bother me. What did us when customers got mad at me for calling it to the bar in sbux lingo. We didn't have cup label printers back then, had to call it.
I did actually get corrected as a customer at a local shop when travelling somewhere and will never go back to that shop ever.
rio8envy7 3 points 2y ago
No. Some people just don’t tell us a size
bbleinbach 2 points 2y ago
No, but we have to check our conversion chart
WonderfulYam2440 2 points 2y ago
I don’t ever mind it at all! We do this all the time! If that’s what works for you, that’s totally cool!
z0ehernandez 1 points 2y ago
Oh we literally don’t care. All the names sound like large sizes except for the 8oz short so if saying s/m/l or 12/16/20oz is easier for u then it’s easier for us.
drew-b 1 points 2y ago
As long as you know what you're asking for, that's really all that matters!
sararhiannon__ 1 points 2y ago
Nope
mostintuitively 1 points 2y ago
Absolutely not. I tell people to just order it that way if they are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with Starbucks lingo
samsauce96 1 points 2y ago
Absolutely not. Really doesn't matter to us, as long as we can tell what you want 😂
LeftSleeveRolled 1 points 2y ago
Sometimes I do it and I work for the place
GetitTogetherJasmine 1 points 2y ago
no idc just dont argue with me when it says tall when u order small
FfierceLaw 1 points 2y ago
No, please say Medium but if we are inside the cafe, I will probably show you the cup size because 90% of the time when someone says Medium and I show them our Medium (Grande) cup and our Large (Vernti) cup they end up deciding on the Large
nickintheback08 1 points 2y ago
No and if anyone does they suck
the_nuudle 1 points 2y ago
I don't care what you call it as long as we're on the same page. Hell we could call it a ham sandwich if it means you're getting what you want on the first try lol
philosopher_cat_lady 1 points 2y ago
No. If anything, we now know that you will definitely receive the size you want
muhkiim 1 points 2y ago
No, they'll understand what you mean.. also, when I worked at Starbucks, we were taught not to correct customers, because it could be either first time customers or customers like yourself that have trouble remembering what we call our sizes. All we did was recite back the order using the "proper" size name.
mothl4vr 1 points 2y ago
we don’t mind at all!! idk WHERE customers got the idea that using s/m/l sizing will somehow offend baristas… we literally couldn’t care less lol
Kristotf 1 points 2y ago
Not at all. If someone orders a medium drink, I'll repeat it with medium to make sure it's right, and at the end tell them it'll be called out as a grande.
spookbish69 1 points 2y ago
Honestly whenever I explain the sizes I don’t say tall, grande, etc. I usually say small, medium or 12oz and 16oz it just avoids a bunch of confusion
Tiny-Focus4937 1 points 2y ago
No one cares
TheFriendlyFeminist 1 points 2y ago
Absolutely not
