Is it obnoxious to ask for a puppacino if it’s not offered?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by razzarrazzar
EDIT: Thank you all so much! Really appreciate the dog enthusiasm and tips. :) I know first-hand how rough these jobs can be but y’all really confirmed how great Starbucks people are.
I’m obviously not a Starbucks employee but I worked in food service/retail for a long time so I try not to be That Customer.
Anyway, I take my dog through the local Starbucks drive-through-only location once a month or so. One time they offered a puppacino, I accepted, and now of course my dog pops up expectantly every time. About half the time, the person at the window offers a puppacino and I accept, obviously. :) But if they don’t offer, does that mean they’re probably having a busy day and should I not ask for one? Or am I overthinking this? (Probably)

No it's not obnoxious, please let the partner who is taking your order know that you'd like a puppaccino for your dog and we'll have it ready. It's ok if you ask at the window too but better for our drive through times if we have more notice when you order it along with you other things. It's still free, of course! In fact it helps us when you mention other free things when you order too like a cup of water for you, that way we have a few more seconds to "talk" to your doggo!

So helpful, thank you!

It’s never a burden to ask it’s the best part of most of our days :) it’d be great if you’d ask at the speaker box so they can have it ready for ur pupper!
razzarrazzar [OP]19 points2y ago
Oh that’s a great tip, thanks!
NOTcreative-7 points2y ago
Though even if ordered at the dr box, if I’m on window I might wait to fill the pupcup myself, slowly, in front of the doggos eagerly waiting eyes.

I love when people ask for puppacinos, seeing all the dogs are the best part of the job
clumsycalico15 points2y ago
Yes!! Little did I know when I moved here that I got hired at a location next to a dog park but wow is it the best thing ever!
plktm16 points2y ago
Ask at the ordering or at the window!! No worries at all. Me personally I don’t offer them out because most of the time when I do, they say “oh no my dog can’t handle it” or something like that. So just ask!
medusas-garden15 points2y ago
Nope! I don’t ask because I feel bad offering since they’re not really good for dogs but it’s not obnoxious at all to ask for one.
razzarrazzar [OP]10 points2y ago
Yeah, I always just ask for half a sample cup and it’s only once a month. But good to know that’s one reason they may not offer!
clumsycalico8 points2y ago
Yep, I never offer because I’m nervous about offering human food to other people’s dogs but I literally want to give one to every dog I see

nah, making those are the least of my worries. easiest thing we’ll make all day

Puppicinos are the only drink easier than an iced chai
the-whalien5 points2y ago
No!!! It’s really the easiest thing to do takes me less than 5 second and seeing the puppy in the back can turn a really shitty shift around super fast!!!

If you ask at the speaker, I guarantee you at least half the store will greet you and your pup at the window!
official_koda_4 points2y ago
Seeing dogs is one of the few enjoyable aspects of the job
babytaradactyl4 points2y ago
When I ask at the order box, they usually say to ask at the window. 🤷♀️
razzarrazzar [OP]4 points2y ago
Probably varies by store.

At least remind at the window. When you ask at the box most of the time someone prepares it immediately so feel free to remind if we get distracted

We absolutely love making pup cups for your dog, nuff said
Sparkflyr3 points2y ago
The only reason I may not ask is if I had asked several time that day and the customer goes on a spiel about their dogs diet and how I shouldn't make the owner feel guilty cor not getting the treat...
razzarrazzar [OP]2 points2y ago
Jeez! People take things so personally!
kandiwarriorprincess3 points2y ago
Not rude or annoying at all! Honestly seeing drive thru dogs lights up my whole day.
Elliotisnotokay3 points2y ago
I love when people ask. And always offer. It's the best part of my day. Definitely better to ask when ordering but its no big deal if you forget till you're at the window
meloscav3 points2y ago
If you ask before you reach the window/drink handoff, I never thought it was irritating! It just helps to know ahead of time so we could have it for you with the other drinks.
Nogood11113 points2y ago
If there's a dog or even a cat at the window, there is a puppachino on its way to that car if I'm on drive-thru.

We LOVE DOGGOS and love making their day with a little cup of whip cream! Some people never ask for one where I work. I offer to everybody when I see a doggy
NervosaNervous2 points2y ago
Pup cups are the best cause that means we get to see the pup(s) 🥺
I got to give one to a floof that had just graduated intermediate dog training and it literally made my entire day. I was having such a hard day and just that one moment brought me and my other baristas so much joy.
august4012 points2y ago
my store absolutely LOVES when people bring in their dogs and would get offended when someone leaves them outside lol, all of us love your dogs and are happy to make them even happier
lcchill2 points2y ago
I gave out my first puppaccino today! (obviously I’m a new employee) Seeing the puppy eat it was definitely the best part of my shift!!
i_am_me472 points2y ago
awwww not at all!! giving out puppucinos is my favorite part of being a barista and although i’ll make sure to ask anyone with an animal, if your barista doesn’t, asking isn’t a burden at all and we all LOVE giving them out!! <33
kid-muscles1 points2y ago
Your dog is the reason I come to work anymore, ask for ANYTHING you need, want, or imagine your dog would come up with if it spoke English/human. You could ask for my first born and as long as it’s for the dog, it’s yours!
ConfusedFey1 points2y ago
We try not to assume and sometimes we just forget to ask (like when I forget to ask if someone wanted their mocha hot or iced) so please ask! We don't mind at all
