Milk in drinks question!! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by annoyinglyuseless
I’ve been with the company for a year and a half. I see the milk debate on all Starbucks groups.
So, let’s say I’m making an iced coffee, unsweetened, with cream. I was trained that it’s coffee to the second line, cream to third, then ice. Only beverage that gets milk at the very end is shaken espresso and nitro, and that’s just half an inch. So which is it?!?

The way you were trained is correct. With adding in- vanilla sweet cream cold brew and honey almond milk cold brew also get milk at the end for the cascade effect. Any other iced coffee with milk or cold brew with milk it’s coffee to the second and milk to the third.

Wait.. so how much milk for those 2 drinks? Just the half inch like nitro?

It’s technically just a “splash”

I was taught that you only do iced coffee to the 2nd line then cream to the 3rd if they specifically order an iced coffee w/milk. Otherwise we always pour on top

I’m so sorry, but I didn’t understand. They’d have to specifically say Can I get an iced coffee with milk (whatever kind)? And if they say can I get an iced coffee with cream, it would be just cream on top?
BabySteele 1 points 2y ago
No then we'd do the first one. But if someone said can I get an iced coffee n when asked if they wanted cream with it, when they said yes then we'd put it on top

Same with if someone ordered a pike place and said yes to cream when asked

I feel lke that a lot of milk?

I know. Lol

You were trained correctly. The drinks that have the milk/cream at the top specify as much in their builds.

Real debate.... what do u guys do when they say splash of milk. Bc we are a tiny cramped space, we prep a cup when we label it, so I’ll splash milk to the first indent if they only want splash and 2nd if they want regular.

For iced drinks, if it’s a splash, I do half of the black lines since I was taught regular cream is from one black line to the other. For extra, I go half past the third black line. For hot drinks… I eyeball it and hope for the best. Lol

i guess it kinda depends on how they say it. by default, the regular milk / cream setting on the app says “a splash of ___” so when people say it similarly to that i press the regular button. if people say ‘a little splash’ or some kind of descriptor that’ll make me think they want less, i’ll do light. similarly, if they say ‘an extra splash’ or ‘extra cream’ i’ll do extra. i’m probably way overthinking this lol but i just do that.

I either do the milk first to the indents or last - I don’t want to jip people of their coffee when I can just add less ice to make room for cream
