Supplemental Plan for trans partners (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by IntoxicatingDream
Hey all,

Any trans partners here? I heard a rumor they're ending the supplemental plan. Anyone else heard this?

I’m trans and I haven’t heard of the supplemental plan. What is it?

Starbucks offers a supplemental insurance plan that will cover the WPATH list of procedures that are not covered by your primary insurance. Like everything. Fat transfer, ffs, voice therapy, calf implants. Everything, everything WPATH lists as medically necessary. Fully covered. It's amazing. Look up the Benefits Plan Description either on partner hub or mysbuxben.com. transgender benefits is like page 47? I think.

Once your primary insurance has refused to cover something, as long as you have contacted the Starbucks Advocacy Network and you have a case worker, they will set your provider up with your supplemental.

I read on another sub that they are cancelling it. This supplemental plan is a godsend. There's literally nothing else like it afaik in the US. Wanted to reach out here and see if anyone had heard anything. I'm calling my advocate tomorrow.

I got a call back from an advocate last week and they prefaced the call saying that they can only answer questions as applicable to the current policy and that it may change on October 1st (as all policies are subject to change). I hope this doesn't mean the supplemental plan is ending, but we'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Would you mind linking where you saw it in another subreddit?

Oh wow thanks for explaining it! I hope they’re not cancelling it, that would be horrible.

If that’s true, that really sux, bc one of the main reasons I tolerate working for SBUX is their generous health insurance policy. I know at least one other partner at my store who started working to get her surgeries taken care of. If they remove that benefit, they will lose even more partners.
