First Time Training! (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Tea_and_bread
Hi everybody, I have three new green beans to train this week! I'm very excited but also pretty nervous to train people for the first time. So I'd love any advice you could give to help make the process smooth. I also have a couple questions:

- What do you wish your trainer told you when you were training?
- What method of training was the most effective for you (as a trainer or a trainee)?
- Has anyone ever trained three people at once, if so, how do I cycle learning activities?

Thanks a bunch!

Train them to enjoy CS! My trainer came at CS with a positive attitude (some people dislike it because they just want to be in bar, which is totally understandable) but knowing how to do all of the regular store functions is extremely important & fun

Okay so rule #1. Don't rush it. Even if your in a time constraint, you need to take your time and make sure to fully explain everything. It will also help you with any anxiety or pressure of being on the spot, at least it helped me.
How much time do you have with these three? My stores hours have been cut so I'm only really getting two or three days per person and I've only had to train two people at once, not three. Two is difficult difficult do so good luck with three.
I started training around 3 months ago and you have to learn within time how you train best, everyone roles with it differently. At first I was a little shaky and nervous, and that just may be that I'm 17, but I've trained 7 people at this point and know what I need to cover and how to role the best way.

I get a full five days with the three trainees, 4 hour shifts at a time. Plus, the store is closed for the last two hours of the shift.

Thank you for the advice, I'll definitely try to take it slow

Okay so I'm glad you have been given a good amount of time for this. That's really how much time we are supposed to be given for training but lately I haven't gotten nearly enough time. Like I said, just take your time and breathe, don't let it overcome you. Good luck!!
