Hot chai with or without water?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lavendersigil
My store does it with half water, my partner’s store does just milk. Our SMs are saying different things, different partners are saying different things.

Half water half milk
lavendersigil [OP]45 points2y ago
Judging from the answers I think my partner needs to have a word with her SM lmao
Aliciarox1118911 points2y ago
Look at the ipad the recipe is there
allieallison37 points2y ago
Half water half milk. Think about it like a tea latte! Tea bag, half water, half milk. The chai concentrate takes the place of the tea bag!
Magica_gogh26 points2y ago
Standard is half water, half steamed milk. Was just training my green bean on that yesterday!
Coffeeaftersex18 points2y ago
Half hot water & half steamed milk is the standard.
With that being said, I personally make MY chai lattes without water because I like it strong and more concentrated. One of my favorite milks are almond & oat. ❤
ALSO, it is important to stay updated on recipes since they change quite often. Just to be safe ya know?

I heard of that a few months ago from a customer he said a store around us told him it doesn't come with water anymore but we checked the recipe card and it does still get 1/2 water
cringeqween1314 points2y ago
Your partners SM sounds like they shouldn't be an SM (if you ever wonder what something does and doesn't have you can put it into the pos and look at the side bar.) iced chai only comes with milk but you can think of the ice as being your water
firepaper2 points2y ago
For most things that come with water it actually won’t say on the pos if it does.
cringeqween131 points2y ago
I know it does for hot chai
avocadoogen11 points2y ago
Half water, half milk.
z0ehernandez8 points2y ago
Do partners not ask questions when ppl order no water chais….
ryan21988 points2y ago
Standard is half water and half milk- however preference wise i think it tastes better with just milk.
jupiter_bug6 points2y ago
Isn't it suppose to be water to the siren's eye?
interyx2 points2y ago
I always found that measurement unreliable because we get seasonal cups. The siren moves around on them. Plus, I think the siren's eye on standard cups is more like 2/3 water. What doesn't move around are the drink boxes, so now I'll do water to the top of the line on the milk box and fill the rest with milk.

as the recipe card shows, it's with water. i used to work at a sbux kiosk inside of a kroger as my first job & the way i learned it there was that it was just milk. i never knew that there was supposed to be water (&i was always confused when a customer would ask for no water in it lol). it wasn't until i was applying for a position at a drive thru sbux that i learned from a coworker (who had worked at a sbux drive thru nearby) that it was supposed to be made with water. people do different things & the way i see it, as long as a customer doesn't complain, it's probably fine lol
Tereziaparka116 points2y ago
Look at the box of chai. It explains the recipe. With water.
FfierceLaw5 points2y ago
I think much of the time customers complain, they got one drink made “wrong” that they happen to like, but they never know it was “wrong.” Then they are disappointed when they get one built to standard and complain. If they ever figure it out, they are free to modify, but how many figure it out and how many just decide we’re all incompetent? From one wrong drink build 😑
salty_vs_salty2 points2y ago
Yes. This is 💯 why we should always make drinks to standard if not customized by the customer.

I steam the water with the milk. Work smarter, not harder.
lavendersigil [OP]3 points2y ago
Bruh that’s so smart I’m gonna do that
unsatisfied_plant3 points2y ago
Half water half milk unless otherwise stated by the customer. Iced chais are all milk, no water
juju4832 points2y ago
It's supposed to be half water. So many people ordered and like it without water that my store started making it without water. It also makes sense because the iced chai doesn't have water 🤷🏻♀️
Elliotisnotokay1 points2y ago
Recipe calls for half hot water half steamed milk
rosesandthorns171 points2y ago
half water
allamericanogirl1 points2y ago
It’s half water, half milk. The chai is a strong concentrate and needs to be cut with water in hot chai.
harmlessZZ1 points2y ago
Go into the app “store resources” and go through all the recipes if you ever have a spare minute. You may catch other things that have been overlooked!
LavanderSkies09301 points2y ago
The weekly update a while ago said that it no longer came with hot water and to just do steamed milk
HooperB951 points2y ago
Hot chai tea latte = pumps of chai add half hot water half steamed milk (2% unless asked otherwise)
Iced chai tea latte = pumps of chai and add milk (iced chai gets no water just milk) plus ice on top unless asked otherwise.
😁👍🏻
the1noir1 points2y ago
I’ve always done a quarter of hot water and the rest milk. I guess I should start doing half water and half milk now lol

I personally think it taste better made with just the milk but that’s my personal preference. I also usually end up making them without water because that’s how I was shown to make them at my old store but at my new store people make them with water so 🤷🏻♀️ who knows. It’s all on personal preference.
renjaminbutton0 points2y ago
Technically the rule is half water half milk. But I know a lot of partners that don’t put water in it for multiple reasons. My own SM told us that we should make drinks how we would drink them, personally, I would hate if water was in my chai so I don’t put water. There’s also people that just don’t cause it’s faster. But standard is half water half milk.
Webshooter380 points2y ago
My store does just milk
mkohls2460 points2y ago
Should be just milk regardless of the standard. The water makes it suck so bad
TheActualFridge0 points2y ago
😬🙃 my stores been making it with just milk....guess we gotta make some changes

NVM the recipe cards at my store just say milk no water 🤷♀️
harmlessZZ2 points2y ago
Check the app “store resources” on the iPad. That’s the only thing that will be up to date
kurokurokii-1 points2y ago
I was told it was just steamed milk and chai pumps ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And this is why some of us get yelled at, because those who follow standards make it for them and it doesn’t “taste right.”

Y’all are why we get these ‘but the other Starbucks does it’ customers. Make. Drinks. To. Standard!!!!
Alexaction21-12 points2y ago
Originally its half water half steamed milk but around the 1st winter launch of last year they changed it to just only steamed milk to "simplify recipes" just like they did with hot chocolate not getting vanilla anymore although i still ask guest if they want
jcj4413 points2y ago
this is incorrect. it’s still water. make it with water
