So for the heck of it, I decided to enter the Barista Championship (District Level). NOW, I have never been to one or have a clue what I'm getting into. So, I'm here asking you all (my fellow Green beans & customers) on what I should prepare for, study on, etc. To get ready for this coming Friday. Tips, pointers, videos of past Championships, ANYTHING for assistance.
Also what is the prize? I'm hearing it's a gift card and I'm also hearing it's an apron (I just want to know since different people are telling me different things.)

come up with a unique coffee tasting concept, possibly with a good pairing. most contestants will simply grab beans from the shelf and do a pour over - you have a great chance to break the mold here by being creative with your bean selection and brewing method.
additionally, this year’s district championship asks you to make a shaken espresso and refresher. make sure you know the exact build/order of your espresso (syrup -> ice -> espresso -> shake -> top with milk) and come up with a creative refresher build.
beyond this, it will help a lot if you’re able to talk about the components of each drink you’re making. find out about the origin and fundamentals of each bean you’re using. follow your fundamentals of tasting (and talk about them).
if time allows before you’ve even queued shots, talk a bit about the history and some crucial info of your mastrena (e.g., check if it’s correctly calibrated and tell them how you know.)
