I have done this. It is a nice feeling.

My manager kept over-scheduling me and I was burning out and often showed up to open like 10 minutes late, so 5:40 instead of 5:30 because of the bus schedule. She yelled at me; “Are you ever going to come into work on time?!” I just said “Yeah probably not....” and went home and back to bed.

Please perform the ceremonial burning of the green apron responsibly.

you're an inspiration ;o
DreyaNova 24 points 2y ago
You are the inspiration!
arkansas-pa [OP] 39 points 2y ago
nah. they’re still expecting me to show up to an 8.5 hr shift tomorrow 💀
SNES182 61 points 2y ago
Don’t go. They’ll make you work that day and then fire you at the end of your shift. As an ex partner, I guarantee it.
DreyaNova 27 points 2y ago
Yeah don’t go in to that shift.

They’ll justify it by saying “it’s your second chance.” Or some other cult BS, but you don’t want a “second chance” because you already made your decision to leave. The power move is not to go in, let them figure out their staffing crisis as Starbucks careens into the gutter for being a job that literally can’t pay people to work there.
UnderproofedBaguette 5 points 2y ago
If you're on the brink of deciding, and a pay raise would make you stay check and see if you can get one. You can still quit a few weeks down the line and get ahead of figuring out health insurance cause that's a whole load in itself
relyhigh 174 points 2y ago
This just happened at my store. A really good worker, someone who I never thought this would happen just decided they were done. Huge power move, I support it.
arkansas-pa [OP] 64 points 2y ago
aw babe xoxo thx. my manager did just pity text me saying im a "rock" or wtv ;pp
icelessTrash 55 points 2y ago
Tell them how cutting your hours ( and not having adequate staffing with you to keep up to Starbucks standards without superhuman efforts) is a raging flood quickly eroding said rock.

power move
arkansas-pa [OP] 103 points 2y ago
dawg. and now my manager b texting me abt lyra health. wanna diiiiie
rosesandthorns17 75 points 2y ago
not them blaming you and your mental health instead of themselves 😭
arkansas-pa [OP] 92 points 2y ago
literallyyy. like fucking choke. this job is not worth the stress yet i b showing up everyday like my life depends on it ?? for fucking fraps all day
rosesandthorns17 25 points 2y ago
deadass- glad you escaped
MonstrousGiggling 2 points 2y ago
Dead ass if you don't need the health insurance or ASU program go find a better job. Good vibes bro/sis, happy for you quitting.
daveyface7 11 points 2y ago
If you’re worried about your benefits, you get to keep Lyra 18 months after separation I think.
denahom-chikn 25 points 2y ago
i’m debating just walking out. i start my new job on the 26 and i keep going back and forth between actually giving a notice, not showing up, or if my manager tries to write me up for “personality issues” i fully plan on telling them not to bother because i quit and just leaving
arkansas-pa [OP] 20 points 2y ago
literally fuck them. u can do wtv the fuck u want. this job is a simulation like total fake bs. just do whatever
denahom-chikn 12 points 2y ago
facts. i got promoted to ssv and was getting ssv pay and 35-40 hours a week and my sm changed her mind and dropped me to barista pay and has slowly been cutting my hours so i’m lucky to get 25/ week. needless to say, i can barely pay my bills and i’ve brought up needing more hours several times, so i can’t wait to nope the fuck out of there
JohnWilkesBooty 6 points 2y ago
I’m sorry, but what? That sounds illegal. Were you fully demoted, or just your pay was docked while you still performed ssv tasks?
denahom-chikn 7 points 2y ago
fully demoted, but i didn’t get proper notice. it was more “oh hey, your paycheck this week is going to be lower because you’re being dropped down to barista pay” and note that i never even got ssv training either, so i’m confused as to why i even got promoted in the first place
rlogranite 5 points 2y ago
I don't think an sm can do that. You should speak to the dm or partner contact.

I dont work at Starbucks but I've been there before. I used to work for a Blood Center (like the Red Cross but not them). We had a huge draw the day before and only got about half of it done. I was the only one on the schedule but there were like 6 people in other departments that could help. I was expected to break down the remaining units (like 200) by myself and then wait for testing so I could label (what blood type they are) by myself (like 600 units of blood and 300 units of plasma). Then pull the units that tested positive for diseases (HIV, syphilis) and dispose of them by myself. I walked I to my directors off and turned in my badge and walk out. Nope, not doing that. They had me for 10 years and pulled that shit all the time. They couldn't keep people because they worked us to the bone. I was coming in while being in serious pain and not saying anything because I believed in what I was doing. This caused me to wait almost 2 years before getting help for something that could have been avoided. I've just learned that companies just don't care about their people, just what they can get out of you.

You did what was best for you! Good job and I'm proud (says the 41 yr old lol). 👏

Everyone should follow this brave soul and walk out.
luvhen 14 points 2y ago
been wanting to do this 😵‍💫
Adorable_Track_827 13 points 2y ago
i just finished my 9th consecutive day. tomorrow is my one day off before doing 4 more consecutive days and that’s if i don’t get called in on my next 1 day off which would make it 7 consecutive days. atp i wanna walk out too.
morwen538 4 points 2y ago
My record was 40 days. My mental health broke. This job isn't worth it.
krym32zamoon 3 points 2y ago
I think my highest consecutive streak was 17 days in a row :')
idkcassie 12 points 2y ago
i feel this. I showed up to my last shift before a scheduled two weeks vacation and halfway through i just… was over it. decided then & there and turned in my two weeks notice at the end of the shift and didn’t come back. best decision ever
AndrewtheRey 11 points 2y ago
Run, dont walk!
smloos 10 points 2y ago

I just did the same thing this morning!
prmb_1998 1 points 2y ago
Did you had to come the next day? Like I’m debating to do the same. The thing is that I don’t want to go now more 😩
addiekrabbypatty 2 points 2y ago
No! Actually my situation was a bit different. I called the store and told them I would be 10 minutes late because of something that was completely out of my control (I’m dog sitting and the dog I’m watching need insulin and something had gone wrong), the shift got very upset and said it was unacceptable. I got really frustrated and just straight up quit. At first I regretted it and now I’m very happy I did it.
BUT two years ago at a previous Starbucks I just straight up walked out in the middle of my shift and never came back. Somehow still got rehired at another Starbucks later.
xianwolf 4 points 2y ago
That's how I quit my stint at the bux except I was a coward so I went out to my car and texted my manager that I wasn't coming back 🤣 Not proud of it but that job was toxic as hell so I don't regret it.
is_it_soy 4 points 2y ago
I love you.
conniedew 3 points 2y ago
I was super close to doing just that! I knew I had to give my two notice before I lost it and walked out! It’s a struggle and don’t regret it one bit!! Good luck in the future!!
zetus_lipetus420 2 points 2y ago
We have had two people do this in the last few months. Honestly im used to working understaffed so i have nothing but respect for them

I get the fuck the company aspect of it but you also fucked real people that you work with. People that had to pick up your slack. Shit move honestly.
Pretzelex2679 3 points 2y ago
Hopefully they found other coverage but it’s not really OPs problem, they should have enough staff to be able to deal with one person missing. Even tho I we all know they never do.
