First rude customer (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mrcupcake18
New bean here! Finally got my very first slightly rude customer. Not an exciting story but I just thought it was funny to be honest. So I’m in DT taking orders and taking money and my supervisor is on bar making all of our drinks. It’s super slow and everything was going great. Then this woman comes up to the drive thru and asks to get a Trenta vanilla iced coffee with all this special hocus pocus in it (I can’t remember what it was)
Well I was not sure if she said vanilla so I asked

Me: I apologize I got everything but just want to make sure, you said you wanted vanilla?

She pauses for a split second and does that thing that I absolutely HATE!

Lady:……(says very slowly and condescendingly) Trenta Vanilla Iced Coffee with etc etc etc. I come here all the time and get the same thing every time

Fiiiiiiirst of all I’ve been here a month now and this is the first I’ve seen you and even at that I’m new so how am I suppose to know your order by memory and even AT THAT how could you possibly get mad at me for making sure I have your order right after asking only one time about one small thing out of 8-10 special things you named you wanted in your drink. I was more taken aback than annoyed and when she was done talking I like paused for a few seconds cause that threw me off and I went right back into customer service mode and let her know that I wanted to make sure I had everything correct for her so that way her drink can come out delicious as always. She blew me off and continued with her same tone and then when she pulled up she was all super nice to my supervisor lmao I can’t 😂😂

i HATE when customers assume that everyone that works there is familiar with their drink. yes it is nice when the baristas recognize you as a regular and remember your drink but especially at drive through there’s no way for the customer to know if the person taking their order knows who they are, unless the recognize their voice. there’s no reason for them to get upset if someone doesn’t know what they always order, especially if all you were doing was clarifying that they wanted vanilla. some people are so clueless and don’t even see the people that work in food service as human beings. it’s really aggravating

Exactly!! I worked front desk at hotels for 6 years and oooooomg it’s just as bad and probably worse lol

Been there....i love switching to “ sorry I'm new here my names... (fill in blank) what's yours so I can try and remember next time” gets me every time so many boxes checked off.... Did barista get to know me yes, did they make my drink correct, yes.... Did I just force my self to realize there's a human on the other side of the speaker, yes....

I thought about that! I guess I’ve been scarred for life in the hotel industry where I say this and sooooo many pretentious rich people or just regular people in general just do not care so I don’t even say it 😂

t’s weird because at my store I’ll have regulars who come literally every single day(sometimes multiple times) and repeat their order like decent human beings, and then I have the rude ones who mention ONE modification in their drink and expect you to know their voice. It’s entitlement.

Oh yeah 100%!! I love our wonderful regulars cause they are always super nice and easy to talk to

Oh man, the Condescending Repeat ™. So frustrating! I just needed a "yes" or "no" and clarification here bud.

isn’t it? Like thanks Karen I heard the million other stupid modifications you said I just wanted that last bit you whispered at me THANKS I swear if we could only treat the customers the way they treat us
