question for starbucks baristas (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by avocadocat21
im 17 years old, and i really really want to work at starbucks. i’ve applied to at least 10, and I’ve been on 2 interviews. One of them ghosted me, and the other one has been stringing me along for about three months saying that “they dont have enough coverage for training” which i guess is fair but just seems weird. my question is, is this normal? like is it normally this hard to get a job at starbucks? i have some barista experience and i’ve been told on my interviews that i did really well. i just don’t really get it because im really interested and i’ve been really persistent and nothing has worked out. and does anyone have maybe a suggestion for something i could do to get a job at starbucks? thanks:)

It really depends on the store, each store will have its own different circumstances. They might really not have enough coverage for training, or they might be hesitant to hire a minor, or they might just be really disorganized.

When I originally applied to Starbucks, it was about 3 months before I actually started working there.

yeah it’s not easy to get hired. i’ve applied since i was 16 and i didn’t get hired since this year (i’m now 20). id keep trying but it is normal! also call the store you’re applying at a few days or a week later to check on the application:)

I think it just depends on the situation.

I got an interview within a few days of applying and I knew I got the job after the interview. It really helped that I wanted to be an opener.

August/September are some of the best months to get hired because store managers are hiring up for psl & holiday launches

Hiring minors is always tricky cause they know you can’t work as much as people not in school. I will say if you can find a Starbucks close to you AND near a military base that’s your best bet. A lot of baristas are military spouses and summer is peak PCS season (when the military makes you switch bases).

I applied for 16 stores and waited for a month to get a reply but didn’t. Then I called most of the stores and only got around 3 interviews out the 10 stores I called. Most of the managers don’t check the database unless you call or they just aren’t hiring.

My friend applied in January but didn’t get a job until around April/may and she wasn’t even hired at my store. Granted, there was a whole lot of shit going on - multiple covid cases back to back resulting in reducing hours and half our team out for a month, our ASM who was doing the hiring was out for a couple weeks bc her baby was neglected at daycare & she was busy dealing with that and then she suddenly transferred to a new store to become the SM there. So since then my SM has had to do all the hiring on her own and that’s really hard for one person to do considering everything else she has to do. Then factor in how our schedule is put out three weeks in advance so even from the point of hire you’d have to wait. For me personally, it took a month between applying to my first day of training. It will not always be such a long process but tbh hiring is just such a shit show bc the hiring manager usually has so much other things to juggle. Just keep trying and following up and I’m sure you’ll get hired eventually. Especially with the holiday season coming up stores are going to want staff hired and trained by then.
