Are we obligated to stay past our shift to wait for the next block to come on the floor and/or do our side tasks? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by designated-grapes
I ask because I'm always waiting about 5 minutes for me to be released from my position and then asked to stock, do trash, etc. I don't clock out til 15~20 mins past my scheduled shift.

I'm going to start taking the max amount of classes possible through ASU starting next semester since I need to GTFO of Starbucks ASAP. I don't want to have to be at work longer than I need to since I need to be really strict on time management.

i think it's not fair for you to have to stay after you're scheduled because someone else is late or something like that. i can understand if it's a one time thing but if it becomes a regular thing then u shouldn't have to deal with that.

Thanks for understanding. I wouldn't mind it if it's once in a while but it's almost daily. It's frustrating.

I just wanted to know if there was anything in writing that I needed to finish my side task before I leave or not. I don't want to bring it up to my shift that I can't stay like I used to if it is part of my job description.

You need to start confronting your shift or manager and making sure that in the book they start writing down how late every single person is to their shift. It is not okay for it to happen more than a handful of times.

It's not just one Partner, the whole block has a little pre shift update/catch up they do before they go on the floor which starts on my off time/their start time. =/

Quite frankly, that should not affect you. What you need to do is anywhere from 20-5 minutes before your shift ends, tell you shift is there is anything else that you need to do before you clock out at the designated time your are scheduled for, remind them thats the point of the schedule. Shifts are in charge of time management and if they aren’t managing your time correctly it’s just time you start to be more firm on it.

Any tasks that are left to do, finish ONLY the one you are currently doing and then let the shift know that the next block has to deal with it. Honestly, I would start straight up lying and saying you have class or something to do right after your shift that means you have to leave right on time. They can’t punish for you working your exact schedule.

No, you can leave at your scheduled time, no matter what.

This is not okay, especially for tasks that can easily be done by the next person clocking in or whoever is still on the floor.

at my store, that's how it is after every shift. im always staying later to restock or do a trash run. it depends on the shift supervisor, but most from my store ask for tasks to be done after you're slid out of your position. sometimes it's a few minutes sometimes it's closer to twenty. you could probably say you have to leave as soon as you're scheduled to be off for an appointment or something like that. im not sure if you'd actually get in trouble for saying no. but probably better to have an "excuse" to leave. it's up to you tho!!

You can leave at your scheduled time for sure, however you should try to get most tasks done(stocking, ice, trash) in the area you were in before the end of your shift.

I usually work peak and we are super busy and planted until we need to leave. So they give us a few tasks after we get bumped...

Today, I didn't even get my bump until 15 mins after my shift was scheduled to end...and that was only cus I straight up told my shift I need to leave. =/

Heck no! The second your shift is done you’re out! Unless they’re paying you for the additional time gtfo!! All of those tasks can easily be done by the next person if you can’t squeeze them into your shift
