Does anyone else have a regular who does this?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by hidethenight17
Every day we have a women who comes through DT. She always orders a random iced drink, and an ice latte. Always venti.
She always asks for 10-15 ice cubes. Even in her iced espresso drinks, where the cubes can melt. If there’s less or more, she lets us know.
She also always asks for the freshest cut of banana/lemon loafs that we have. I wonder if she knows they come frozen pre packaged on a truck.

I had a customer who asked for a single berry in her very berry, and we couldn’t shake it with the drink or else it would break apart and she’d think we put more. And she’d FLIP it there was more than one

If you find out the answer lmk 😭
jamesbeast2154 points2y ago
Because people have no control over anything else in their pathetic lives
kitcat121040 points2y ago
Had someone do something similar. She asked for very very light berries. I literally put one or two in there and the customer complained that it was too much..... like if you want none just say that😭
VrginMobile12 points2y ago
I had the same type of customer. She always wanted 1 berry and 1 icecube which was weird but we did it anyway.
miniinovaa6 points2y ago
I can’t believe there are more like her
Pheebers7135 points2y ago
I had a customer like this who would only want two berries in her trenta very berry drink. She wouldn’t flip out if we shook them in there bc she always watched us when we made it. She would also ask for it with no water and two Splenda in it. I still don’t know how she doesn’t have diabetes considering she comes in 2 or three times a day for it.

Haha! I don’t work at Starbucks anymore this was a few years ago
toast-the-oven1 points2y ago
very curious to know what location this was, because i also had a regular who asked for this exact same thing at my home store.
miniinovaa1 points2y ago
Haha well I don’t wanna give out too much info for obvious reasons but it was in the SAN Fernando Valley in CA
toast-the-oven2 points2y ago
ah yeah i totally get that, mine was in salt lake city, ut. these two people would get along very well lol.
miniinovaa1 points2y ago
Dang that’s crazy lmao
carcinophile53 points2y ago
Had a regular ask for 3 iced cubes in her iced mocha. Firsr time I'd met her, I gave her 3 iced cubes and kind of assumed she didn't want whip due to other modifications (and also the fact there wasn't enough ice to hold the whipped cream up very well). She got pissed and told me that I didn't know how to do my job because the drink came with whipped cream etc etc.
I don't work at that location anymore but I think about her sometimes.
hidethenight17 [OP]60 points2y ago
I absolutely hate when they ask for lactaid fraps or other non dairy options for allergies, and when I ask “do you want whip on that” and they reply with “duh”
carcinophile25 points2y ago
It wasn't lactaid or nondairy but it was nonfat and as 'low sugar as I could make it' which included skinny mocha and no whip. People are bizarre sometimes lol
djshiva15 points2y ago
Regular milk upsets my stomach, but whip doesn't. Straight milk is the one thing that wigs out my system like crazy. Other milk-based things don't always have the same effect.
But that doesn't excuse anyone being rude about it, of course. You're asking them a legit question because you paid attention to their order and they should appreciate that.
Royal_Concentrate_0044 points2y ago
Had a customer come through DT and my shift said without missing a beat, "yes, ma'am they're thawed fresh every morning" I still laugh my ass off about this. Then had someone ask that we make sure not to give them the End Piece of the loaf. Lol
hidethenight17 [OP]17 points2y ago
I wonder if I can say that to this woman or if it’ll have a, “make the moment right” talk after.
Royal_Concentrate_0015 points2y ago
You could give her the freshest thawed piece. But there's not much you can do since we don't make any food in house. Or just say "yes ma'am"
b0rrowers41 points2y ago
when i was working there was a regular thatd get a grande hot chai with exactly 3 ice cubes so it wasnt too hot and she always checked if it was 3. i dont know why she didnt just order it to kids temp but she was very particular abt it
Klaus_Unechtname2 points2y ago
At my store you can just set what temp the person wants the drink… of course if some dumb customer is set on x ice cubes then obviously there’s no pleasing them
hungrymuffin12337 points2y ago
Use to have a regular who’d order a venti very berry, light lemonade, 2 berries and light ice, not shaken. She was very pleasant until you added to many berries, too much ice (really any more than 3 ice cubes) or shake it, then she’d flip out, so anytime a green bean made her drink, someone would have to cut in so they didn’t get berated by this woman. Thank god she moved away before they stopped production on it, but I feel for whichever store became her victim.

OCD maybe? People develop all sorts of compulsions / habits
amazing_redhead32 points2y ago
I have a partner who's asks for 10 ice cubes A customer who asks for 6 ice cubes And one that ask for a single dragon fruit berry in they MDR
hannah_nj26 points2y ago
we have one who always mobile orders a soy caramel macchiato w no foam filled to the very top..and it has to absolutely be NO foam and the VERY top. i made it today and the crema from the espresso kinda rose up as it does sometimes, my shift was on dto and handed back the drink to me in the middle of morning peak so i could try to scoop off the millimetre of “foam” and then steam more milk to fill up the half centimetre of room so that the reg wouldn’t hand it back after her careful examination 💀
hidethenight17 [OP]42 points2y ago
Why do we allow these people to be like this, it’s literally just coffee. Very ridiculously over priced coffee.
paigemclachlan22 points2y ago
There’s an ex-partner (I think?) who only wants 2 ICE CUBES in his pink drink. Sometimes I put 3.
There’s also a woman who gets a venti hot chai with “very light water”. We put no water in her chai and she still thinks it’s too much.
interyx9 points2y ago
I had someone like that, they were either a partner or an ex partner. He wanted a venti Starbucks double shot on ice, shaken with ice, with no ice. That man wanted me to strain the ice out of the drink before I served it to him.
What in the good goddamn

I always wondered this same thing when I was a partner.
But now that I’m not, I understand some of it. I’m a light ice person because of my sensitive teeth and because damn those drinks are expensive. “Light ice” is very subjective, and I would say 50-75% of the time I end up with regular or extra ice. I’ve even tried saying “barely any ice at all” and I’ve gotten regular or extra ice. So while I don’t specify how many cubes, I think people do it because of how subjective “light” can be.
I’m always nice, FTR :)
[deleted]2 points2y ago
Yeah not gonna lie a lot of times when customers ask for “very very very light ice” I still just make it with the ice scoop one size down. I’m usually not in the mood to carefully portion out a tiny amount of ice cubes just because someone is particular.
stormy-nights1 points2y ago
Same here, you either get one size up, the regular, one size down, or no ice. I’m not gonna try do anything else lmao

I had a girl complain at the DT that we put too much lemonade in her strawberry açaí, because it clearly is too pink. No ma’am, it was just a splash of lemonade and the LEMONade is yellow. She goes on to argue with me the lemonade is pink and I’m lying to her, because she can’t taste no base, just lemonade. I went ahead, got her extra base in a cup, handed it over and she just rolled her eyes and started talking to her friend like if I’m being serious or not. People are really doing too much sometimes.

Grande chia tea latte no foam, no water, 8 pumps of chia, 180°, stirred, 4 Splenda, and the stopper half way in. Everyday at 8 am. If the drink isn’t made to her liking she will tell you the next day. It is so uncomfortable.
Another drink order we get everyday is from a lady who asks for a coffee frap with 19 pumps of frap roast. It’s fucking crazy
hidethenight17 [OP]2 points2y ago
Not 19 pumps of forbidden soy sauce
OlHyena045 points2y ago
Few former baristas from my store, they often know which best day to get fresh food and other stuff. They come in and order very specific. I think it funny but I miss work with them.
[deleted]8 points2y ago
I… what? Former partners should know that the food is never fresh lol
ah090224 points2y ago
Sometimes people are hyper sensitive to taste/texture/temperature and can tell the difference. I also know from working at the bux previously, it can be frustrating to deal with. I always liked to accommodate those things when reasonably feasible. They are paying for the drink, and if they are kind about it, I'm more than happy to do what I can to make it a positive experience
Reddit-user-2564 points2y ago
Bartender here, we’d always get people who wanted a particular liquor “neat but with three ice cubes” like I know drinking room temperature liquor is gross and you don’t want it diluted but just ask for ice on the side? I had someone count in the glass and then complain they weren’t in there when I put the ice cubes in front of their face and in the glass. People are very particular, it’s odd sometimes
hidethenight17 [OP]2 points2y ago
I was a bartender for five years before becoming a barista, I totally get this. I always gave people water/ice on the side when they were that specific. I tried giving someone their cream on the side once because they were very specific to how they wanted it in their coffee, it didn’t go down well and they were mad I didn’t do it and told my manager I was lazy.
Sometimes I think about bartending again, but the late/Long hours were unruly
lily-amber3 points2y ago
We have a women she’s very old and kind of rude too. She always asks for a “… tall green tea matcha (match-a) latte and I want it at a particular temperature. It needs to be 180 degrees and i’ll know if it’s not. I want one scoop not two” and she tells us she’ll know if it isn’t. Like lady? You can’t taste anything with that scalded tongue. She also tells us EVERY time at the window we make it wrong. She calls corporate when her drink is wrong. Not the store. Corporate. Also the funniest part is she asks for no foam…. in a drink that hot?! Yeah right!!
Broccoli_In_The_Butt3 points2y ago
We have a lady ask for extra extra extra dark caramel drizzle and she’ll complain that it only says extra caramel drizzle and we have to explain to her every time that that’s the most extra the screen can say. Im pretty sure she’s the sole reason my stores out of dark carm.
hidethenight17 [OP]2 points2y ago
Honestly my store would probably try to avoid that. We’re out of dark car every week
its_only_tysen3 points2y ago
We have a customer who says if there is more than 12 ice cubes that he will throw the drink back at us, so we make sure he gets his 12
deslobu8 points2y ago
I’d purposely add an extra ice cube and have a drink ready to throw right back at him. We absolutely do not have to tolerate abuse from grown adults that throw tantrums over 1 ice cube being out of place.
hidethenight17 [OP]2 points2y ago
I wouldn’t serve someone who would threaten me. If they want service they’ll respect me or go elsewhere.
We had a lady try to give us her trash once, and we said we can’t. So when she went to pay cash she had her garbage in her hand and dropped it in my shifts hand. My shift handled it so well, I’d probably throw it back at the lady
LeftSleeveRolled3 points2y ago
We have someone who asks for 7 ice cubes and sits in the drive thru to count them. She’ll send it back if there’s 6 or 8.
Kimmikkokat2 points2y ago
We have a regular who gets the MDR, no water, extra shaken, 1 piece of fruit put on AFTER we shake it. If it's not shaken enough or if it's to light( that it may have any water in it) or the piece was shaken in, he sends it back. We just put no water and then his name on the ask me and we all just know.
hidethenight17 [OP]2 points2y ago
So man just wants pure sugar juice
Kimmikkokat2 points2y ago
Pretty much. Sometimes hell come twice in a day, and sometimes we won't see him for a week. I kinda want to ask if he uses it for mixers ( cuz he doesn't drink it in the store, but he keeps the ice so idk) but I don't wanna seem rude and insinuate that no one reasonable would drink that straight if he does indeed just drink it straight
fantasmicck1 points2y ago
w h y extra shaken like I really don’t think it matters that much?! how can he tell 😩
Kimmikkokat1 points2y ago
I guess the bubbles? Maybe how cold the ice makes it once it's shaken? I have no clue.
rivveeerrrrr2 points2y ago
Have a regular that asks for, every time, "not too many ice cubes, maybe two or three"
hidethenight17 [OP]2 points2y ago
Literally what’s the point of ice then
GrandpaCody2 points2y ago
One of my regulars moms was like that.
OlHyena042 points2y ago
You right. I not mean to say fresh. I really mean it come out from freezer day before.
