Just another day of reminding the shift on duty that she needs to have some compassion for greens beans on their second day of training. I said my piece.

On one of my first days I was told to sweep and mop the store. I got it done drenched in sweat cause it was so hot in there and my shift had the audacity to tell me “next time that should only take 30 minutes” bc I took closer to like 40/50 minutes. Like ur lucky I even got it done before passing out plus I’ve been here for less than a week?? Have some patience.

Some managers, "Next time do it faster and better, that was crap" (I wonder why I can't keep any employees.)

My first time officially training people, I trained 3 people at the same time. And, at my store, training had not been done correctly in the past. So, when I was training these people the positions, I would stand at the position and teach them and show them everything. When I’m teaching bar, I’m teaching and not making actual drinks that customers are ordering. We have two espresso bars, so I was occupying one of them and a shift rang up their drink and then told me I had to make it. And I said, “actually I don’t because we aren’t on bar, we’re training.” And she was like, “well, you’re all in the way so.” And she said it so rudely in front of all the trainees. After we went on a break I had to apologize to them for the shifts behavior and explain to them that they aren’t in the way, they’re just learning and they shouldn’t let other people make them think that they’re a nuisance for doing their job.

this kind of stuff makes me so sad and mad, I always check in with trainer AND trainee at the top of the shift to make sure we all understand where they’ll be that day, what I can expect from them, etc…. I only ever am more direct in coaching if they are doing something unsafe or extremely against health code or standards. usually trainers catch that stuff though! that’s why they’re there! geez
