i’m pretty sure i’m in crisis lol and i think it’s in my best interest & safety to go to the ER. but my store is already understaffed and i also don’t want to lose my job bc i didn’t ask for time off. i know it sounds stupid but im genuinely concerned about it.

Call out and go to the ER and take care of yourself!! You do not have to provide any documentation or anything. Simply saying, “I won’t make it in, I’m heading to the ER” is perfectly sufficient information.

This and just get a note at the ER. I'd be surprised if they didn't ask if you'll need one when you get there.
You don't need a note for under 3 days, mind, but it helps settle the more tense managers if you have one anyways. If there's no charge for getting a note, there's no reason not to have it just to cover your back.

They cannot ask for proof, it’s against policy, it changed a few years back. What will happen is if you miss 3 consecutive days they can initiate a leave of absence for you

Oh wow, good to know!!! I'd still recommend getting one if it's free and convenient, but it's amazing to hear that partners don't need to add expense and trouble when already sick and missing hours.

And If your manager acts shitty, don’t let that be the reason that you don’t go to the ER. You are more important than a cup of some dumb hot bean water.

if you need to call in do so! i’d also talk to your manager and let them know what’s going on, and if you have sick time you want to use then let them know that too. sorry you’re having a bad time, and i hope things get better for you ):

You’re an inspiration to me for asking this question. I have forever wondered in fear of going on a 72 hour hold. I admire you and I truly hope you find your peace. Also I feel as though there are laws that protect you I just don’t know what they are :( my best suggestion is to keep a paper trail and have doctor documentation if you do find yourself in the er. You are forever a warrior.

You can use sick hours for mental health days.

I went to a mental health clinic back in 2016? Maybe 2017 🤔? When I got there I told them it was an emergency. Once the doctor saw me and began talking to me they said they were amazed for how long I was able to function with what I was experiencing. They immediately gave me a note that I would be out of work for 3 days and then decided I needed to take disability. Starbucks allowed me to take a 6 month LOA while I was on my disability and it helped me get better so I could focus on getting healthy. It’s important to take care of yourself even if your store is understaffed they will survive without you. It’s just coffee and you and your life will always be more important than any business.

Literally call your store manager and tell them you're in a crisis and going to the ER so you won't be in for a couple of days. Any decent person with a heart will understand completely and will tell you to go to the ER. If they for some reason give you shit call/text your DM as well and they should give you all the time off you need.

You and your life will always be more important than any business! Go to the doctor the store will survive without you even if it’s understaffed.
